Novik started out writing fanfic? I knew it! The first book, particularly, just cried out "fanfic!" Well, I shouldn't whine--have never been much of a dragon fan at the best of times, so I thought that explained my lack of enthusiasm. But the human characters haven't taken off, either. You know Peter Jackson's optioned the books for film treatment? No telling what that will look like!
