Oh, I'm glad the many issues in Le Chevalier d'Eon didn't put you off it entirely. XD It's definitely problematic as hell in both a storytelling and a gender sense (besides the transgender issues, I was really annoyed by the amount of dead women, even if some of them were important and smart and got to Do Things), but it hits some of my interests so hard and does such crazy things that I can't help but love it. And it was such a nice change to see the standard roles swapped around, with Lia being the elder, experienced ideal that d'Eon was trying to live up to.
