comics impressions

I've finished reading The Question (the O'Neil run).

Overall, I found it very good. Some of the stories really hit that sublime streak of... I dunno how to call it exactly, looking at the absurdity of the world, but without having it be reduced by the absurdity. In a way it reminded me a lot of Mushishi (which is an anime which has absolutely nothing in common with The Question besides giving me that feeling). Not quite every stories do manage this; and some just don't have aged very well. The whole zen/taoist martial art gimmick should annoy me but miraculously doesn't. Shiva is awesome; and Myra is a very solid supporting character through out (Tot isn't bad either). The humour was probably one of the thing that truly made it great.
Though by the end, it tends to feel a bit gratuitously grimdark in an unpleasant way (especially the Quaterlies, which struck me as frankly superfluous).

The Vic Sage Question is one of my top 3 favorites, but you're right about the grimdark stuff. Sometimes I prefer the DCAU treatment of the character, obviously as influenced by Rorschach as Rorschach was by the original Ditko version of The Question.

I've only heard about the DCAU version (which does sound fun!)
