I've just finished watching ep 11, where are you up to?
It's just! I find this show soooooooooooooo frustrating, because I want it to be... well, like Princess Tutu or something, a deconstruction of fairy tales; and it's never going to be that, it's going to have very painfully cheesy manicheism BUT I still love Regina and Emma even if they are ridiculous characters, and they're hot, and I want to be able to ship them even though sometimes it's hard because of all the cheese :/
It is, as you say, painfully cheesy, and yet for some reason I also find it a lot of fun? It's nice seeing so many women on TV, for one thing! I am not so much for Regina/Emma, although I would totally go for Emma/Mary Margaret (with all the weirdness that entails).
The only other thing I'm watching live-ish right now is Justified, which is a much better show but sadly lacking in the women department. I usually only watch TV when I have someone I'm watching a show with, otherwise I lose interest and forget (like with Dexter). I think the only thing I've ever managed to watch straight through by myself was Avatar.
I've had to accept that Once Upon a Time is never going to be the show I really want it to be. It's not going to be Utena, or Tutu, or Fables. But it is fun, and episode 12 went some places that I wasn't expecting, even with all the Disneyfying.

I'm not so sure about where they're ultimately going. I suppose we'll know by the end of the season, but for now I'm suspending judgment. In the mean time, I'll just enjoy Regina and Emma ...

Plus, lots of women characters, with variety.
