Basically, it's the other way around. Idol culture revolves around watching them in everything and if you follow more than one band - like me -, you have at least three doramas to watch this season only. So non-idol doramas have to be extremely good to justify the time spent watching them and not, say, a random Arashi variety show. (Arashi has the most epic canon ever and I'm counting Doctor who, Gundam and Macross there. :P)
There are people who just watch doramas for the doramas and they hate idols, as a rule. XD
