So, I've finished reading Vinland Saga.

Then I looked up the fanfics. All five of them. *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighs*

I hate small fandoms. I mean, I love small fandoms, I just hate how small they are sometimes :p

Mais je crois que les petits fandoms me frustrent moins que toi. Ou plutôt, ils me frustrent plus quand le canon est fini, et que sans le fandom on n'a plus rien du tout.

Oui, j'ai vu. Malheureusement un pairing qui m'intéressait pas XD

Ben je crois que le fait que je n'écrive pas joue aussi (et même quand j'écrivais, j'avais vraiment besoin de lire pleins de fics avant, pour avoir l'impression d'être capable de rentrer dans la tête des persos).
Après ça dépend, quand un fandom me donne cette envie de shipper profonde, d'en avoir plus, d'explorer des alternatives - ce qui est le cas de vinland saga, même si de manière mineure - ou d'autre fois je me contente du canon très bien.

Je ne shippe pas spécialement, en fait. Je l'ai écrit, bah, pour un échange. Si je devais choisir, à lire, ça serait plus du gen sur Askeladd - mais c'est aussi parce que cette partie du canon est finie, justement.

Tu shippes quoi, toi ?

Askeladd/Thorfinn (en gen d'exploration de leur relation ça marche aussi) ^^

Si tu en trouves des bien, dis-moi. :-)
(même en slash, hein, je n'ai rien contre, c'est juste que ce n'est pas nécessaire pour moi :-) )

*sobs* why is it always the fandoms I'm not all that interest in which have a bazillion of fics by awesome authors? :)

Maybe because they're things easier to write fic about?

Something that's off-beat from the norm is, by definition, off-beat and thus gonna be a bit harder than something like Harry Potter fic to capture the feel of.

huh, i'm not convinced actually. I think fandom popularity has little to do with ease of writing. Usually it's more, like, does it include a lot of young, pretty, preferably male characters who banter a lot? Is it mostly addressed to young people / teen as a demographic? And, is it a medium which is popular in the first place and easily accessible (liveaction tv at the top of the list)? And then some random stuff would account for Harry Potter and the like.

I think those questions are related. Banter and young-pretty people stereotypes are what most fanfic writers know how to write after all.

When I hear "stuff difficult to write", I was thinking of things with complicated setting that needs research (historical stuff for example), plots which deal with a lot of technical stuff that needs research, complicated plots in general :3 etc.

Well with historical and technical stuff, you can always just Make Stuff Up ;)
