Teethless smile

I be wisdom toothless. My mouth's all numb.

It went relatively well, apart from the part where dentist was always saying "Don't panick!" "Don't panick!" when I was like "I'm not panicking, I was just informing you that I am in pain right now. In a non panicky way."

So, is it just me or are we giving this whole ridiculous Open Source Boob project more attention than it deserves? I mean, the whole part where there's essays kindly (or more acurately righteously angrily) detailing why it is so wrong instead of just mocking the WTF-ness of it... wobble worthy. Like, it actually requires explanation?

AFAIC if people want to indulge in free boobs (or other part) groping party, more power to them! But a public arena like a convention of SFF/anime/whataveyou is not the place for it. Well, not unless it was the Boobicon, or something.

Ooh, ow, the wisdom teeth thing is no fun at all. I'm glad it went mostly well for you, though, and I hope you'll be un-numbed (but still pain-free) soon.

I think the 'project' wouldn't have attracted quite so much attention if the original post had possessed a different tone, and if the OP hadn't talked about doing it at other cons. Many feminist bloggers are also F/SF fans and convention attendees, and the idea of this spreading through the con circuit rightly creeped them out. And when people mentioned their concerns about possible problems with the whole thing, it seemed like a lot of them were being dismissed. Aaaand I've probably just proved your point by giving it yet more attention, right? Sorry.

I'm almost fully unnumbed and the pain is entirely manageable so far.

Yeah, the tone was very... peculiar (I didn't read the post to the end, though, way too disturbing). It would be entirely creepy if it extended, I agree totally, but could it? Could such an outrageous proposition be extended? That's kind of what boggles me. We actually need to say that? Are we giving it more legitimacy by bothering to respond? I don't know, mind you. I'm not that familiar with the American SFF con-going fandom.

Also, I hate to see post by people saying they won't go to cons now because they're scared. I kinda want to yell "no, don't abandon them this territory!" this is also because I kinda hate the idea of male and female fandom being segregated, doing their own things in their own space and hating each others.

(I gave it attention to in my own post so...)

I think that dissecting the project has some value - not for zapping what the original event actually was, perhaps, but as an example (though admittedly I do find the original idea very creepy. It's true, they really should have got a private space designated for groping if that's what they wanted). And I find there's something nice about the way that some questionable lines of thought are getting hit by so much logical smackdown/righteous anger. IMO, it's more that this thing has been a convenient trigger to get people worked up about the underlying issues.

Good to hear the wisdom teeth removal went okay!

Aaah, you make a good point. It is an excellent exemple of male priviledge.

I'm not even disturbed by the original idea, which may say how used I am to the sexist atmosphere of geek parties with a majority of males. I mean, it would be "no, no, no" of course, but I wouldn't run the other way screaming the first time I'd be asked. - I think I'm really way too used to that kind of atmosphere >_>;;

Boobicon sounds like fun, but sadly mine are too small for me to attend :-(

Yay for resolution of tooth problems but BAH! to Galway-denying pain ;-)

Bobbicon is for both men and women to enjoy coping a booby feel, do not feel excluded < / sarcasm >

Thanks, and yes :( London, in July, is it?

[identity profile] werthead.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay. And I'll be posting pictures of the Galway Apocalypse :-)

The London meet-up looks like being around 5 July or so.

You can still go with the itty bitty titty committee.

The what project? *blinks* I'm off-line often due to house repairs but what's this latest fiasco?

One summary of the whole deal, I think it's probably also on Fandom_Wank. Basically a group of people at Penguincon started an impromptu "May I ask to touch your breast" session, and are framing it as a sex-positive empowering thing, which was apparently relatively successul (!) and included instauring buttons with "YES you may" (ask me), or "NO you may not" (ask me) for women to wear. They're so happy with it they'd like for the whole deal to be more widespread at SFF cons or something. Honestly I haven't followed the whole ramification past the O_O WTF? first impression. - Lots of people in LJ and other blogs are now giving their opinion on it, mostly to say HELL NO!

[identity profile] ariss-tenoh.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
What happened to basic human rights? And since when is it acceptable in any way to sexually harass women? *stares*

[identity profile] shiinabambi.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's okay to ask so long as "Fuck off, pervert" is an acceptable answer. It's not empowerment if you're only allowed to say yes, any more than it was when we were only allowed to say no. Choice is key.

[identity profile] ariss-tenoh.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Unless I'm mistaken, the idea was to do this at a con. A fan convention is hardly the place for women to get groped or sexual freedom/empowerment.

[identity profile] ariss-tenoh.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
And it sounds like something a nerd would come up with. *shakes head*

that's what a lot of people are saying, yes.

yeah, only the nerds x_x;;

It's being wanked on journalfen in two places, but not fandom_wank. The first post is in unfunnybusiness, where it's the biggest thing to ever hit that community. The second is in otf_wank, where it is just average for that community, possibly because the otf_wank post links back to the unfunnybusiness one.

I just noticed--Penguicon? That just happened in Troy, Michigan, not 40 miles away from where I live! Who ever said that Michigan was a boring place?

Lol, why is everyone (including me) having teeth troubles of late? It's like an epidemic. XD But glad it went rather well.

What's this about boobies?

[identity profile] etrangere.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
you know it's spring when people have teeth trouble! or not!

Check out the link I already gave to the others. It's pretty nonesensical but potentially amusing in a wanky way ^^

XD Oh man, that post pretty much broke my brain. It's really how he described it and how he wanted a call to boobs about it. So not the way to go. Thanks for such an interesting (yet nearly headache inducing XD) read. =D

[personal profile] rebbe 2008-04-24 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
OuchouchOUCH. Good that you got them removed, bad that it hurt! Hopefully the pain will go away soon, although I personally find the numbing worse. Hopefully you won't have any trouble with that either!
ext_2023: (Default)

[identity profile] etrangere.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
it's not too painful (&heart; antipain medicine) so far, thank you :)

the numbing was weird indeed... all gone now!

(Anonymous) 2008-04-24 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Boobicon, see I had no idea any such thing was even imaginable. I guess you could not invent sf fandom. just eek, this sort of thing really does not help me wanting to identify ( just to myself, not others) as being a sf fan.

oops, sorry that was me, T. Needing new icons and all..

Hah! I am now officially toothier than thou!
I hope you recover well, and that it clears out the trouble you had with all those excessive molars.

Hm, I have no particular problem with that as long as the badges are free, then idiots may indulge in whatever stupidity they wish.
You know, not like 5 cents for the yes button and 10 euros for the no button...

I personally want to know what the tight babydoll T-shirt with the print "Your hands aren't good enough for my boobs, NERD." costs.
