OMG. WTF?! On what grounds did LJ delete

pornish_pixies? This is so depressing.

apparently it would tie to an organization called "warriors for innocence" who targets pedophiles. I assume they called LJ's abuse team on a bunch of communities and users which had interests in things like incest and chan.

I admit I would not have cared this much if this had happened months ago. But since my new OTP is technically chan...I'm very nervous about this.

It's a small fandom so you may have luck avoiding it. Then again one Wonka community got targetted and they're hardly big! Otherwise, I'd consider flocking your fics for now (and saving copies if you haven't already).
If you have any fishy thing your interests list removing it might also be a good idea.

So much for their statements a few days ago that they knew nothing about fandom-y journals being deleted and that it is all a hoax.

I guess we've made ourselves vulnerable by sticking on this place which is corporately-owned. Suddenly the idea of setting up a big archive by the fen for the fen seems like a much better idea than I thought previously!

I just sent a mail to LJ asking what this is all about. I'm not in the mood to wait for the story behind this to slowly trickle through.

That fen-run archive is sounding better and better. If LJ hops on the corporate bandwagon here, then I'll let go of my scepticism and just take a leap of faith.

Yeah, likewise. We need a platform for legal matter. And we need an official association anyway to defend our interest generally speaking. (RPG as a hobby does, and they're a good model of a co-creative community of people who have no trouble living with money-making and free-exchange co-existing)

It's starting to look as though we'll soon not have a choice anymore about how public and official we want to be. Maybe this one is a drive-by-shooting and fandom is getting hit by the stray bullets (looks like it, from what I've seen), but who knows when someone gets it into their mind to go after the evil people who promote gay romance? The RPG scene really sounds like something fandom may do well to look into in terms of how to protect ourselves.

We couldn't fly under the radar forever and just hope they'll never go after us. Sooner or later there'll be an official trial about the legality of fanfictions.

Warriors for Innocence just posted a new entry trumpeting their role in shutting down hundreds of LJ accounts and being very self-righteous about how it's LJ's business which journals they closed, not theirs.

I think you have to pay to get in, or be invited or somesuch thing. I do know, however, that I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for somewhere from now on...

Exactly. I'm so glad I haven't let up on my dream of having an archive of my own, and have come across so many great platforms for it to be built on. It's nice knowing there are firm alternatives to LJ.

Yeap. Looks like Journal Fen as it currently is wouldn't work very well.

I guess there's also Greatest Journal. I need to research other networking services.

It doesn't help that JournalFen is down, and has been since just after midnight Eastern U.S. time. That doesn't happen often, and the timing is...odd, if coincidental.

It's not a coincidence, it's server overload. Too many people want to follow the story.

Strikethrough 2007 crashed Journal Fen's servers! Even so, there are 2000+ wanks. Can you imagine how many wanks there would be if the servers stayed up?

I've gotten a backup journal over at Greatest Journal, and I know that Snegurochka, Lore, McKay, Arionrhod and others are doing the same. Pervy Werewolf and Lupin Snape have comms there, just in case.

Argh! So frustrating...
