For stuff about women writing (official) games material as well as fiction, you might want to talk to [livejournal.com profile] archangelbeth and [livejournal.com profile] incandescens (that might be helpful for you too, [livejournal.com profile] etrangere). Also [livejournal.com profile] papersky has written GURPS sourcebooks, and is now a full-time novelist.

The various LJ RPGs seem to me to be pretty far away from the table top kind, with at least one extra layer between the player and the character: instead of, say, me playing a world war 2 American sergeant, it would be me as [livejournal.com profile] daegaer playing, let's say, my particular conception of Aziraphale - and to add confusion to the mix, it seems to be the norm to set up a separate LJ for the characters, so it would be Me -> [livejournal.com profile] daegaer -> [livejournal.com profile] aziraphales_diary -> Aziraphale. Obviously the LJ RPGs can lend themselves to plot, but I find the comments threads far too confusing to read, and the actual style of playing too staccato and bitty.

For an interesting LJ RPG that presents itself in an different way, I think you should check out the Weiss Kreuz game [livejournal.com profile] estet_missions, where as far as I can see, all the roleplaying is done under friendslock or in chat, and then someone (more than one person I think, but the majority of pieces show the same style) writes the sessions up as stories. When I first read something there, I had no idea it was a RPG (the PCs - both canonical and original characters - didn't, and still don't, seem like self-inserts to me, [livejournal.com profile] etrangere, which is why I think that perception may have somethng to do with first person vs third person narrative) - with what is on public view, it looks like a carefully constructed interlocking set of WiPs, but in fact is being created communally in gaming sessions. I'm assuming the players are representative of the gender split in LJ fandom, predominantly women. Certainly the player who suggested I read a story featring the character she plays is.
