top five worst father

5- Bill Adama (Battlestar Galactica) that "do not mistake this for approval" icon is brilliantly accurate. Nothing is ever good enough for Adama, and everything is always about how he feels.

4- Gendo Ikari (Evangelion) They've named the fictional award to bad father for him for a reason.

3- Ozai (Avatar the Last Airbender) to Azula as much as to Zuko

2- Tywin Lannister (A Song of Ice and Fire) for Tyrion and for Cersei especially, though I liked how the TV show high lightened to wasn't exactly perfect with Jaime either.

1- Gerald Tarrant (Coldfire trilogy) the most horrible thing is, he was probably a good father, until he, you know, murdered his children.

Top 5 Magneto moments (any medium)
I'm not really sure I've read enough stuff yet to really answer this, but... (also, saying "any medium" opens you up to fanfics. You've been warned).
1. the "A Fire in the Night" story
2. this chapter from Fear the Rest by [personal profile] penknife
3. this fic.
4. that short story from Nation X
5. The Trial of Magneto... in 30 Seconds

Top 5 des meilleures adaptations d'histoires mythologiques.
aka Top 5 of the best adaptations of mythological stories.
1. Stuff by Giraudoux. Because if I started listing them individually, they'd take over all the top five.
2. Antigone by Anouilh
3. Lord of Light by Zelazny
4. The Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
5. Vellum by Hal Duncan

3) Mushishi, the anime series, is a sublime jewel
4) Revolutionary Girl Utena, the anime series, is such a deep, awesome work
5) Emma is a great manga work, with some of the most gorgeous drawings ever
Though there are so many great works I'm not listing in a mere top five *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighs*

salinea: (satisfied smile)
[personal profile] hamsterwoman asked:

Top 5 fictional worlds (any medium) that you would like to see an RPG set in
1) The Coldfire Trilogy : mostly for the genius magic system which I always found very interesting and filled with potential. Also like the mix of standard medieval fantasy with SF elements via planetary romance which allow for some more modern elements in the mix in interesting ways.
2) Fables (the comic book series) or Princess Tutu - co ex equo they have similar theme in term of intersection between fairy tales and reality, in a meta-ish way, but with very different treatment. I think I've seen tries with Fables especially that didn't seem too bad (using the nWoD system), though there's always the risk to mix in too much ideas and concepts in a similar manner to the way Changeling the Dreaming did
3) This Alien Shore : yes another Friedman books, what can I say, I love her setting building. There aren't a lot of SF settings for RPGs and those that do exist tend not to interest me (often to movie/TV conceit of Sci Fi for my taste, or a contrario, to hard SF). This Alien Shore hits a sweet spot of intriguing social SF in a way that's a great set up for adventuring still; holds a lot of diversity of cultures while still being a network, and has a reasonnable justification for having "aliens" who are not too-aliens (they're actually humans!). Had some of the other cool details in the various societies depicted in the book you have a good set up - though one might want to get inspiration from other stuff to properly thicken it.
4) Anita Blake : don't laugh, I really think the series - early on that is - had some pretty neat and solid ideas in term of world building / setting that I wouldn't mind seeing in a contemporary supernatural game overall.
5) American Gods : because if there's something Scion made clear is that there's a need and potential audience for a game that does that; it's just that Scion is a terrible game for it. But yeah, something that plays up Mythological gods & heroes and monsters in a modern setting would be really rad.

(while I doubt Draegarea would have make the cut anyway, though it would make the long list, I have to mention here that House of the Blooded seems to me perfect to make an adaptation of it)

les cinq fins (livres, séries, films) que tu trouves les plus satisfaisantes. Which for those who don't speak French means ! "the five best endings (books, series, movies) that you find the most satisfying"
1) Revolutionary Girl Utena. Really stands out!
2) The Last Unicorn. "She will remember your heart when men are fairy tales in books written by rabbits. Of all unicorns, she is the only one who knows what regret is - and love. "
3) Usual Suspects ^_^
4) Watchmen
5) Petshop of Horror

incidentally I was the person who created the Bittersweet Ending page on TV Tropes wiki :3

2) Dragons, because you can't beat the classics.
3) Flying horses / Pegasus, see 1)
4) Sphinxes
5) Marsupilamis. I mean, the Spirou kind, that should count as mythical (I had plushes of the whole Marsupilami family when I was a kid ^^)

Fandoms, ice cream flavours, cartoon moments, women in my fandoms, OTPs, ideal holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, books I wish would be made into movies, love songs. And I will answer them all in a new post (or in comments). Possibly with pictures.

2. Ivan Vorpatril, Vorkosiagan series
3. Tsuzuki Asato, Yami no Matsuei

Top Five Azula moments for [livejournal.com profile] rebbe

1. The Beach. The whole of it. Especially the volley ball game, the "you're so sharp" attempt at flirting, and of course "my mother thought I was a psycho! she was right of course, but that still hurt"
2. Crazy-zula with Ursa in the mirror. I love mirror scene.
3. Explaining to Zuko why she'd told Ozai he had killed the Avatar - and doing so all flirty.
4. Day of the Black Sun, fighting without fire bending, taunting and still winning.
5. Intimidating the Dai Li agents into submission. Scary and exhilariting indeed XD

Tope five too-shojo-to-be-good-for-your-health manga you'd recommend for [livejournal.com profile] ngblog

1. Please Save My Earth - I made a review recently after rereading it, definitly one of my favourite guilty pleasure shoujo. The melodrama, it still gets to me!
2. Basara - Melodrama AND epic, yay! too bad I hate the art style, but the storyline makes up for it.
3. Skip Beat - due to extremely awesome protagonist, and a story that's focussed on her being awesome first, and on romance second. Quite the mood lifter.
4. Lovely Complex - Best comedy romance currently on the market.
5. Mille et une Nuits - mostly because I really love the art style, soooo pretty. Rather fond of the stories, too, and the stories within stories gimmick.

Top five fictional characters for [livejournal.com profile] wingblossom
which is an evil, evil question because only five fictional characters? In the entire world? argh

1. Himemiya Anthy (Revolutionary Girl Utena) - fascinating character, very ambiguous one and at the heart of a fabulous story
2. Aeryn Sun (Farscape) - one of my favourite female warrior type character out there
3. Xelloss (Slayers) - much as a love the character type, and he's an excellent, endlessly amusing one, I think it's the voice that clinches it.
4. Miles Vorkosigan (Vorkosigan series) - there's a reason I keep reading those books, and one of them is how utterly comfortable I find myself in this guy's head, okay?
5. Jaime Lannister (ASOIAF) - cocky arrogant bastard

Five favorite ASoIaF fan art for [livejournal.com profile] redcandle17
That's a difficult question because I sometimes save fanart i like, but not always, and it's also not something I always pay a lot of attention to, and I'm posting things here I won't be able to credit properly. Oh, and some might actually be official art and I forgot about that.

Top Five Lairs for [livejournal.com profile] littleduchess
1. Akio's Astronomy Tower: because it multitasks! (does it show I've been rewatching Utena?)
2. The Room of Requirement: see above.
3. Drosselmeir's behind the scenen space. Mostly for the multiple screens option. Also, pretty wheels.
4. The Dai Li's secret hideout in Lake Laogai. Cuz it's creepy and efficient, and big enough to hide a flying buffalo.
5. The Diet Palace and the Tokyo City Hall most for the lol factors of having secret lairs in two of the most high profile political buildings of Tokyo, and for reframing as X's really about the fights between the Legislative and the Executive Power!

Top five preferred beverages for [livejournal.com profile] catiechu
1. Tea. Green and Oolong teas are my favourite, but I love other blends as well :)
2. Cider
3. Wine. I've started to properly appreciate wine - especially red wine - only recently, but now I'm pretty fond of it.
4. Whiskey
5. Rhum
NB: I don't drink soda. At all. Nor Coffee.

Top Five Favorite Fruits Basket Characters for [livejournal.com profile] honest_illusion
1. Shigure: as mentionned somewhere in the comments of my previous entries, Shigure's been my favourite FB characters from beginning and only got more so as he became darker and more manipulative. It's a character type I adore in general (Caring Manipulative Bastard), but i think Shigure's actually my one time favourite of those.
2. Momiji: because he's adorable, and wise, and sly on occasions ♥
3. Rinne: because she's fierce, hot and fragile all at the same time, all in edges and angles. Again a type of characer I always adore.
4. Hatsuharu: another case of being adorable and wise, and I also love the way his bipolarity works.
5. Hana-chan: she really cracks me up and she's also very sweet
BONUS 6: Hiro: on account of reminding me of PSME's Ring, mostly, and generally speaking for being a sarcastic, precautious, arrogant smartass who's all awkward at emotions related things.*

Will do the rest of the tomorrow!

Top Five Fictionnal Kisses for [livejournal.com profile] curtana

1. Ruka/Juri's kiss in Azure Paler than the Sky. Because she bites him, and he uses it to mindfuck her steal her locket XD
2. Jack/Elizabeth at the end of Dead Man's Chest. I'm not much of a shipper for PotC, but I do love my eros/thanatos manipulative kisses of death, and that one was PERFECT.
3. There's this yaoi by Setona Mizushiro which is called "le jeu du chat et de la souris" in the french translation which has got some very, very hot kisses.
4. Sansa's dreamed kiss with Sandor which didn't actually happen (not that the scene at the end of CoK wasn't hot enough even without it)
5. Spike/Buffy's dream kiss in OMFH & the one in Tabula Rasa. I'm not a shipper anymore and not much of a fan either, but when I see those kisses in fanvids occasionnaly, I am reminded that, yes, they're ridiculously hot kisses.

More top five. And you can always ask for more by the way!

[livejournal.com profile] indigestible asked Top 5 works of science-fiction, any medium

1/ Distress by Greg Egan anarchism, gender, sexuality, ontological reality, mind-melting metaphysical hard science, YES!
2/ Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Leguin gender, sexuality, taoism, long long treck in the snow
3/ Use of Weapon, by Ian M Banks BAM! ending, anachronological telling
4/ Brazil by Terry Gilliam (only movie of that list!)
5/ This Alien Shore by CS Friedman most realistic explanation for humanoid aliens ever, most awesome autist character ever

[livejournal.com profile] bitterfig asked for 5 favorite fictional f/f couples (can be canon, fanon or just wistful thinking)

1/ I'll be utterly cheating by naming Blackcest femslash, so I don't have to pick between Bellatrix/Narcissa, Bellatrix/Andromeda and Bellatrix/Tonks
2/ Juri/Shiori - because they're canon and messed up, because Juri's obsessed and because Shiori's a nevrotic passive aggressive wreck and I love her for it.
3/ Kendappa-Ou/Souma-Ou - because they're basically the female Seishiriou/Subaru
4/ Tohru/Saya - because they're the first generation of X's opera of angst, love and fucked up decisions made to rescue the ones you love. Because Saya is a mermaid sinner in an ocean of tears and how awesome is that? and because in Duklyon they go on a date to watch the X movie which is totally disturbing (someone please find me a scan of it)
5/ Ginny/Pansy - because they're both bitches in different ways and both would snark out at each others in the most delightful way

I don't know why, searching for this one, I kept feeling like I was forgetting someone obvious, not Melisandre/Phèdre though...

BTW, bitterfig, I need to rec you Bleed by [livejournal.com profile] redcandle17 which is going to make your brain melt. It's fairytale femslash.

[livejournal.com profile] a_white_rain asked for Top five10 reasons to like seishirou/subaru

3/ Because of Hokuto's speech about Subaru wanting someone for himself. Because Seishirou/Subaru is OMG angsty but either of them without the other would be even sadder
4/ Because of the hug in TB when talking about organ transplant. Because of the way it's echoed in X, and nothing beats a Wedding Eye
5/ Because of the dualism and symbolism, and the mythological references which makes it just perfect
6/ Because Seishirou will kill a puppy if you don't
7/ Because of this picture
8/ Because it's twisted, cruel, sadistic, poignant, morbid and utterly lovely
9/ Because there's no such thing as someone who shouldn't love anyone
10/ Because I.... you

[livejournal.com profile] curtana asked for Top five fictional couples who should really just get together already, dammit!

4/ Saionji/Touya

2/ Sansa, she'd be polite and cool and compliment people and look pretty

4/ Jaime, also witty and also looking pretty
5/ Tom O'Seven, for the music. Bonus point if he insults everyone and it ends up in one big brawl

[livejournal.com profile] elihice asked me for my top five unconventionnal movies
I'm gonna assume that by unconventionnal you mean non blockbuster holliwoodian, ne ?

1- Brazil by Terry Gillian
There's a reason Terry Gillian is my favourite director, and that's it

2- Clerks by Kevin Smith
'cuz duh, it's just a very fun movie all around which I remember fondly even if it's been 10 years or more since I saw it

3- In the Mood for Love
Does it count as unconventionnal ? Beautiful asian movie (was it Singapour ?) full of grace and wonderful music

4- The Wedding Banquet by Ang Lee
I was a Ang Lee fan much earlier than Crouching Tiger mostly because of this movie, a delightfully tender comedy

5- Pi
Because it's a delightfully brainbroky movie and I love the Mage:the Ascension vibe of it

[livejournal.com profile] sakuraragi asked for my "Top five books that made you cry" yay, books !

All right, from books I remember I did cry :

1- Use of Weapon by Ian M. Banks
This book's end is a punch in the stomach. I had difficulty breathing. I love all the Culture books but Use of Weapon is forever my favourite

2- Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
I still remember as that book as one of those who marked me the deepest. Not very original I know, but it's Card's gift in writing children that some readers utterly identify with. I was sobbing by the end, and couldn't bear to go to sleep so it was one of my first all nighter I spent reading ^^

3- The Summer Tree by Guy Gavriel Kay
It's funny I don't remember I cried in Kay's other, better written books but I remember crying during that one. There's something about Paul's ordeal on the summer tree that pushes all my buttons, when someone is pushed in circumstances that let them utterly naked and raw to face themselves for themselves. I think it was one of the first occasion that started my fascination for Hanged Man figures.

4- Memory, by Lois McMaster Bujold
Ahh, the Vorkosigan books. I think I also cried in Mirror Dance but I can't remember for sure. Regardless, those two are my favourite of the serie. The point when Miles is utterly broken and Ivan is called to the rescue and pushes him in cold water, the reversal of their usual dynamics and how much light it shed on their respective personnalities...

5- Gateway by Frederic Pohl
At first glance it's a classical Space op book from the golden age. At second glance, it's really a book about psychanalysis, grief, and dealing with the past. I adore Frederic Pohl, for such and old, classical SF writer, he's got an extremely modern writing style (one that Azimov, Van Vogt, Herbert or even Vance certainly do not have) with very likeable characters

Whoaw, only one fantasy book among these bunch of Sci-fi ones... strange. I guess it's because I tend to cry much less while reading a book nowadays that I read more fantasy than sci-fo than I used to. It's sad in a way.

[livejournal.com profile] su_chan asked for my top five for favourite cities

I'm sticking to cities I've been to

1- Paris

3- Prague
I really loved visiting this city, it's terribly beautiful

4- Munich

5- *draws a blank*

ETA:

Harry the heir asked me for my to 5 French movies :

1- La Haine by Mathieu Kassowitz
and extremely clever, structured, funny, harsh and striking movie

2- Le Fabuleux Destin dAmelie Poulain
because it's such a delight to watch

3- Mina Tanembaum
It's one of those friendship of two very different girls movie, made me cry

4- Cyrano de Bergerac
Despite Depardieu being in it, it was a very good adaptation of the play, and one I loved

5- Elisa
Because it's got an extremely likable Vanessa Paradis in it. Plus, Gainsbourg music
