I think by now, everyone on my flist but me have seen Serenity. To you all guys, I HATE YOU :p

I finished Anansi Boys this morning, which was very fun. Light hearted and pleasant to read. I always love how much of a storyteller Neil Gaiman is.

I also finished Last light of the sun the other day. Guy Gavriel Kay was once my favourite fantasy writer. I'm not sure if he's just not as good as he used to be, or if it's me who lost taste for the style and gimmickes he (over)uses. I'm a bit afraid of rereading books by him to check which it is. It wasn't a bad book by any mean, but it was far from the enchantment it used to be. No character grasped me emotionnaly. I think this is partly because he badly sold the book. It was supposed to be about norsemen damnit. That's not what I read.

I think it's not impossible either that I'm getting tired of fantasy. I mean, since I've swtiched to mostly reading in english, I've started reading much more fantasy than sci-fi. I guess there's a point where it gets wearisome.

I am revelling in that hate :) I hope you realize how rare it is for me to see anything before anybody else, in fact had a difficult time realizing it opened YESTERDAY, was hoping december or something and rather wistful about it. But you will get to see it soon enough and then we need to talk about it really bad.

Know what you mean about GGK. For me I think it was both, his books really are getting worse, more gimmicky, more contrived, never skipping melodrama when an oportunity appears, but my tastes are also getting more jaded ( apart from the movie which will not be mentioned because it would be gloating).

I have been out of town so I am not seeing it until Monday with the Boys who have been kind enough to wait on me.

I had the same problem w/ GGK. I had an adjustment after reading the trilogy but still really enjoyed his work up to this last set. I am still waiting to see what he does next.

So you are not alone in either of these. Do you read Endicott Studio at all or Suralalune? That is where I ahve been getting most of my newer fantasy recs from.

BTW, I'm so glad your health is now good. Also - I forget to say this every time I post here - your LJ layout is very funky/cool. :)

I haven't seen it yet! I don't even know what it's about >_> but I do know many people who've seen it and have been raving about it.

ooops I just realized I never answered to those.

I am revelling in that hate :)
Haha, I bet you do ^^ and you'll have more revelling to do with AFFC ;_;

*nods* I think it's normal that taste becomes more refined as it goes. When I was a kid I could read anything no matter how crappy. It's strange to think back to it.

I rather thought the more historical novels were an improvement over Fionnawar, myself (not that I didn't like Fionnavar, just that Tigane, and Lions, and Arbonne were better) it's only with the sarantine mosaics and Last Light i'm being so disapointed.
I'll probably still read his books. I'm just becoming disenchanted about it. It's a melancholy feeling. Now I'm scared of re reading anything by him.

I don't know what it is ! Is it on the internet ? Do you have a link ? Recs are always good ^^

^^ I'm sure you'll get it eventually

NZ has delayed release ? Wow, I never knew. I thought most of the anglo-saxon world had their movies released at the same time. It's not like they need to dub/sub them...

Thank you ^^

lol yeah it seems for a while everyone was doing their Serenity post.

I was a big fan of Buffy, and hence of Joss Whedon, who's the guy who made Serenity. That's why I'm so interested ^^

Sorry I really wasn't clear!

I did enjoy Fionavar when I read it. I didn't know that Arbonne was what it was so there was an adjustment for me as a reader. Now, the three you mentioned are also my favorites. I did not connect at all with his Saratine Mosaic, although I ahev tried several times because I do know about myself that timing can make a difference, or my mood.

Now. I still hope. I love those other books so.

Ricght now, I just finished a gulping reread of Powers Last call Trilogy. Love still. Immensely. Tried Anubis Gates. Nope. And I am eying a Steven Brust Vlad Taltos revisit. Which I know will still be great.

I also have Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint waiting.
