Snupin Santa recs so far (1/?)
10 Dec 2006 11:22 pmi really wanted to make a list of rec for the first week of the (delightful, wonderful, beautiful!) Snupin Santa fics so far ...
(I'm not doing it for art because I never rec art, and there's no reason you shouldn't check all of the art given that it's all gorgeous and doesn't take long to watch)
Four Scenes (NC-17)
Rubbish bins, trysts, battle, and recovery.
While it's a short and elliptic story, it also manages extremely elegantly to hit all the right notes of Snape and Remus' characterizations. In four scenes it traces back a lot of their history; before, during, and after the war, and displays them wonderful, with exactly the right amount of angst and humour.
Pack animals (NC-17)
AU fic where Lupin never went to Hogwarts and joined Fenrir's pack. He meets Snape as a young death eater. Whether or not either of them are redeemed is up to you.
As an A/U this one is very original. The lovely chiaroscuro (semi-dark, ne?) gives it a delightful, velvety atmosphere, the characterization of Snape and Remus (especially Remus given he's the one most changed by the setting) are very tasty. And the D/s elements were wonderful if that's your thing.
Severus in Wonderland (PG-13)
Set between book five and six, Dumbledore has a plan he wants Snape and Lupin to work on together, but unsure they will be able to he decides to throw the two into a dreamscape to prove their trust in one another.
This one is extremely fun to read, especially because of Severus' sarcastic narration and because you try to recognize each character. But it's the characterization I especially loved, and the theme of trust, because, damnit, Remus is not a trustworthy person and it's nice to see it acknowledged.
Time Served (R)
For Remus, it's not about how fast time seems to go by; it's how you spend what little you have.
While it felt a bit hurried and unpolished (I didn't understand why there was a shift from third person to first person from the 1st paragraph to the rest for exemple) and i wouldn't be surprised if this was a pitch fic, the goodness of the characterization and the lovely writing style well made up for it. I especially loved Remus' voice, jaded, wearied and understated.
What We're Fighting For (R)
During OotP or HBP, Remus gets in deep with a pack of werewolves. They build on his resentment of the oppressive Ministry laws, and he is attracted to their "alternative lifestyle." He is in danger of going feral, and Dumbledore sends Severus after him. Severus has to be "claimed" by Remus in order to keep the pack from ripping him apart. Is Severus able to convince Remus to leave the pack and rejoin the wizarding world?
Extremely lovely and clever fic, both for the ideas in the setting and the characterization (the way the writer draw the werewolf pack and some of the Remus and Severus' backstory), for the characterization, and for the thematics involved. I love that kind of outlook to the War that takes into account the price it takes from the people, and the muddled morality it leaves you with.
We should have loved more and feared less (NC-17)
"Fic - set post-Marauders, pre-series (in other words, when they're in their early 20's). Remus is ill. Snape has to take care of him, including bathing, etc. Virgin and/or constantly horny/wanking Snape a plus. Caught wanking scene (either one) a plus.
This is definitely one of my very favourist fic of the feast so far! The writing is terribly delightful, extremely witty and funny but in a dark, wry way (which is why I thought it was busaikko's ^_^) full of delightful observations by Remus and sarcastic banter by Snape. The sex is written with a wonderful awkwardness and unperfectness that makes it all the more hot. The characterisation is very unabashed, and true to the character, with Snape being an (unglamourous) jerk and Remus not being all that much better, but still leaving to both of them a part of clumsy tenderness. Oh, and the description of Spinner's End rocks mightily.
Win Some, Lose Some (PG-13)
Severus thinks having Remus as a colleague is unacceptable, especially when he can't seem to control his feelings toward him.
This one is a great comic Snupin in the great tradition of the comic Snupin fics, full of banter; stiff, sneering Snape, and amused, sexy Remus. Priceless, very funny, adorable, quite sexy and just delightful all around.
A Method of Annullment (NC-17, bestiality, rough sex, light bondage, mindfuckery)
The thing about a Pensieve is that it can both mask and reveal, depending on the time of day. Memory is always a tricky one, after all: look too closely and you'll start to doubt what you see.
If you like Mindfucks at least half as much as I do, you're going to love this. It's not as much the kinks as the wonderfully nasty relationship between Snape and Remus it draws. The characterisation is stark and unforgiving to either, and the depiction takes the best out of antagonistic relationship and the power issues there may be in sex. Not for you if you don't like dark-ish stories, but a delight if you do.
