Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom-specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Question can be as wacky as you want. Ask me about characters, fanfic in general, fandom issues/meta, anything about any of my stories specifically. Whatever you want.

Fill in the blank:

If I could, I would live the next 40 years of my life in the guise and in the shoes of ___________ (insert fictional character of your choice).

Yuuko from XXX-holic very probably, as she's very close to my Mary Sue! (she's the girl on this icon)

Powerful witch with access to an untold number of dimensions, has a good sense of humour, barters her power against cool stuff, good taste in clothe and likes to have fun. Good opportunity to meet many interesting people.

What made you get interested in the Black family? And do you still like them for the same reason(s), or has that changed with time?

You know that's a difficult question to answer. I don't remember one moment when I realized how much I was fascinated by them. I liked Sirius a lot since first readon PoA, and I remember liking the Black background a lot when reading OotP, but that was all before I really cared about HP. The whole fandom sneaked up on me suddenly after some time. I guess it was Juxtan's fics, like for the Snape/Lupin fic. There was one Sirius/Regulus fic there, which whetted my appetite. Before I realized it, I was head over heel in love with the family as a whole.

I've always liked dysfunctionnal families so it's hardly a surprise. It's the dynamics of people who both love and hate each others passionnatly. The difficulty to communicate and the misunderstanding buried under the stiff formality and brash rebellion. It's heavy, dusty, rich, rotten, intricate. There's a sense of history and drama tied to them that's appealing. They've always reminded me of the Atrides. Lately, TS Eliot has been my House of Black soundtrack!

I find all of the Black characters interesting, so that helps. Bella's a fun villain. Narcissa's a cool icy lady. Tonks is fun. Sirius I adore. And the little we know of Regulus is fascinating. We don't much about Andromeda but it's intriguing. Even Draco I started to like after HBP. Let's not forget Phineas' delightful snarkiness.

Also they really span the WW in an interesting way. The fact that some among them fanatically support Voldemort, while other are members of the OotP. It feels like you find them back a bit of everywhere in the story.

HBP was a rich book for the Black fan. But while their characterization was deepened, I don't think there was anything that really made me change my reasons. I see Regulus a bit differently, more brazen, more competent. Tonks' change in characterization I'd rather just ignore kthxbai.

So there ^^

Indeed! May I reciprocate the question?

Yikes! Well, it certainly wouldn't be from an old novel. Imagine being stuck as a Jane Austen or Dickens character for 40 years? *shudder* LOL.

To be perfectly truthful, I'd be happy to spend that length of time as Prof. McGonagall, provided she was younger than Maggie Smith;) She can be prim, but she's powerful... Plus, she's a teacher. I'd enjoy that.

Apparently, power is high on the list of criteria when considering the prospect of being a fictional character for a long time. Hee!

What plot idea, from fandom or from canon books, do you desperately wish you'd come up with?

If you had the opportunity and could ask those bitches of CLAMP just one question, what would it be?

Here's a question I asked keelieinblack, but since it fits your meme, I'll ask you as well: Have you ever run into a creator who looked at his or her current fandom and said, "I don't like them. I like someone else's fandom better," and then went about to run them off to get a new fandom?

What? I've no idea what you're asking. Like the author of the canon the fandom uses who goes and tries to chase away the people who are in their fandom?

A lot of stories from [livejournal.com profile] anneline I'd really would have liked if I had written. There''s one with the young DEs, where they're being all silly, all prejudiced and all revolutionnaties. And Regulus thinking it's all the fault of big business the Gringott bank. And stuff. It's brillant. Or there's the 1st war snupin fic which I really adore.

Then again there are many many many other fics I could say I'd love to have written, so that's a pretty random answer ;)

Yes, that is what I'm suggesting. Remember the fandom that I told you about in IM? That's what happened to them. I want to know if you've ever heard of it happening anywhere else.

I've heard of something similar with the Ann Rice and LKHamilton fandom.
I think Ann Rice simply hunted away every fanficcers of her fandom and doesn't like anyone to play in her playground.

LKHamilton did some cleaning in her own forum and blog and told the "negative fans" that they were not invited. (it was up at fandom wank recently if you want a link to the report)

I'd forgotten about Anne Rice. I didn't realize that she was quite that ruthless. As for LKHamilton, now that you mention it, she seems like the person who did the closest thing to what I described. I understand she has lots of new fans, but her old fans are pissed off at what she's done with her characters. And, yes, I'd love a link to the Fandom Wank report. ^^

To be honest all I know about Anne Rice is from hearsay so I've no idea how crazy she really was.

There's a link to LKH's wank : http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/1041659.html

Yes, most of the older fen of her are very disapointed with the most recent books which are badly written porn with no plot. She thinks it's because we're prude we don't like the porn and people try to explain to her it's because we'd like more plot in the porn, yo. Also she promised her main character she wouldn't kill any "good" characters anymore and that way lies bad writing XD She still sells well, so apparently not a big issue...
