I was reading this Language Log entry about patterns of nicknaming politicians in French (we're voting this week end for the first turn of the presidential election in case American news are as bad as rumoured), when I saw this line :

de Gaulle nicknamed as le grand Charles, le grand Charlot, "qui vous savez" (Canard Enchaîné pretending that they feared censorship)

"qui vous savez" means "You Know Who"

This will be me, laughing my ass off on the floor.

I've heard about it, and have been idly following it too; but I don't think that's particularly common. Who are you going to vote for, if anybody?

I don't know yet. I know I very much don't want Sarkozy to get the function, and I'm not likely to vote in the extremes... so I'll have to decide between Ségolène Royal and François Bayrou. I'm not really crazy of either... ^^ not that i'm extremely knowledgable politically.

I'm curious to see how your elections are going to turn out. France doesn't affect us nearly as much as Germany, but it's been interesting to follow the developments.

I'm very curious about how they'll turn out as well. In all cases it could be very interresting - though possibly in a Chinese curse way.

*grin* Oh, I'd pay to see Voldemort dealing with French politics.

What fascinates me is that there are four candidates who might go on to the second round, and that three of them polarize so much. It's getting a lot of media coverage here.
