I tried reading your thread over at Ran's and just got too angry halfway through page 2. I'm not going to respond to Pat either on his blog or the board because a) I'd just be bandwagon-jumping since I wouldn't have gone to either on my own, b) I've never engaged Pat in any discussions before, so chiming in this late in the argument doesn't seem very purposeful, and c) Pat obviously has no interest in this discussion and is patting the entire other side of the argument condescendingly on the head with comments like "men are from mars and the fairer sex is from venus".

All I'll say is that as a writer (since he decided to throw that phrase around in a response to Elio) he should recognize the enormous power of word choice, and not claim that he didn't intend to be inflammatory and derogatory with terms like "Chick lit" and "girly". I'm still not even sure what he meant by that, after reading the review and all the responses. Was it sappy? Melodramatic? Trite? Contrived? Lacking in developed characters? Printed on pink paper in a flowery font? Sporting a provocative tattoo near the base of the spine? Lacking in gore? Unrealistic in representing relative physical strengths of petite young women versus big, brawny men?
