Grunnerkrigg Court is my new favourite webcomic. It's even better than Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki*, and SGVY has Spleipnir calling Loki "Mum"! But Renard wins over Loki any day ** and I'm totally in love with Antimony (and with Zimmy too).

I does piss me off to see it compared to Hogwarts. Do people realise that JKR didn't single-handedly invent the genre of school with magical & weird stuff happening in it?

That's it, from now on, I'm gonna take stuff hyped at TV Tropes wiki as gospel. They haven't let me down yet.***

* So, what is it with Tricksters stuck into a plush toy? Not that I'm complaining but it's kinda peculiar as a plot device.
** I'm more of an Odin's fangirl for Norse myth anyway.
*** Grunnerkrigg Court being third after the Melancoly of Haruhi Suzumiya and Avatar.

Maybe there's just something appealing about an immensely powerful chaotic force being trapped in the form of a cute and fluffy toy?

I keep running into mentions of Grunnerkrigg Court at TV Tropes, too; I guess this means it's time for me to stop putting it off and go read it.

Everything that has a little bit of fantasy gets compared to JKR lately. Sometimes I wonder if it's because the people who make the comparisons think Harry Potter is the only thing the average public will recognized, or because the people who make the comparisons don't know anything else themselves. Because sometimes there are similarities, and sometimes it's just very general stuff that has to do with the genre.

It's especially obvious when they try to lump several fantasy hits together, as if they had something in common with each other. "Like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Narnia!" Uh, oookay. Because those three are really similar to each other.

But it wasn't even a mainstream source! (I think... actually I don't even remember where it was from >_>;;)

Oh, I had completely forgotten to keep up to date with Gunnerkrigg. I wonder if there's an LJ syndication for it, to save the absentminded.

Not that I know :(

I'm pretty bad about following webcomics without reminder, too. If you find oen tell me.

I finally got around looking at those comics. I prefer Gunnerkrigg, because of the style and because it mixes more mythological elements, so you have more moments surprise. SGVY is ort of cute, especially when they all move in with Yuuki, but the costumes for the female characters do make me roll my eyes and I find the ideas and tropes a bit too worn out from published manga.
