Vendait Images populaires
Que Georgin gravait dans le bois
Où sont-ils ces beaux militaires
Soldats passés Où sont les guerres
Où sont les guerres d'autrefois

Appolinaire

I plan on retaking it in the future, after I'm 'formally' finished with German. I mean, I lost three years in high-school in a very useless French program (well, not that useless, some classmates got to make fondue and we got to eat creme caramel, accents be damned... and teachers told their Paris anecdotes) and I did learn something so...

(*admits defeat at reading it and hunts down a translation - note to self: study more*) Nice poem! I love the first verse, and I really should go and read some more Appollinaire.

non.

You took German and French? My, you're a masochist.

sometimes one learn more than they thought.

I had 5 years of spanish and they were mostly wasted given how much spanish I can speak XD but I can still understand a simple text if I apply myself but that's mostly because the languages are so similar.

Jesus Apollinaire
invented
emo.
I'm not much about poetry though this is a nice poem, minus the cringeworthy emo ending :P But there are two poems I really love. I might post one now actually: it's "la cigarette" de Jules Laforgue. The other one is a Beaudelaire poem. Beaudelaire pwns.

I'm sure Verlaine would take offense to that. And Baudelaire. Baudelaire invented a whole new word to mean "emo", how emo is that? And a bunch of other earlier poets too ^^

Baudelaire dpesn pwn occasionnaly ^^ Can't claim to know Laforgue well.

But being stuck fighting WW1 counts as emo, then?
