It's...really annoying? On LJ's part, I mean. Because anytime somebody links to something they see on LJ that's supposed to show something of theirs (aside from homepage, profile, or specific posts), it links the person clicking to their own version, because LJ doesn't include your name if you're looking at your own stuff, so for the right address, you have to go to someone else's version and replace their name with yours in the address.

(Overly lengthy explanation is the result of far too much time spent figuring that thing out.)

1. Your favorite userpic of mine

I love this quote! Really!
2. Which one you wish I'd delete immediately

Let's just say that if I had to pick one to go it would be this one. I'm not sure why. Maybe because the ring ain't the Ring. Or something? No good reason, really.
3. Which one you think needs explaining

It's really pretty! And I'd like to know the story behind it. It's intriguing. I like.
4. The userpic that makes you laugh

LoTR + ASoIAF + meta = win. That's all. I don't know if it was done before or after the HBO casting, but either way, it's just plain awesome.
5. Two userpics that you think should mate
6. The one you think is the most beautiful
7. The one you think has the best cropping
8. An icon that you think I should use more

You can never have enough of Persepolis.

I liked doing this, by the way. I like your icon roster in general.

1. Your favorite userpic of mine
"You're so hopelessly monosexual Miles"

2. Which one you wish I'd delete immediately
No preference, really -- there are lots of icons I don't "get" because I don't know who's in them, but they look pretty, so!

3. Which one you think needs explaining
"poetry" the one with the "the children green and golden" quote

4. The userpic that makes you laugh
Um, yeah, thirding the Septa Mordane one

5. Two userpics that you think should mate
michiko (whoever she is) and the Martell girl

6. The one you think is the most beautiful
I'm going to go with "natsume", but I also really like Steph's Martell icon and the Inara/Kaylee one

7. The one you think has the best cropping
Watchmen (Silhouette)

8. An icon that you think I should use more
The Miles one! Because that would mean you were talking about Vorkosiverse :D (yes, I'm still obsessed....)

>2.> It's a pic coming from a comic book after George Martin's short story, so it just shows a knight charging. I jsut love the pic because I find it pretty.

>3.> You really need to watch the animated movie Persepolis, or read the comic. Anyway it's a young girl living in Iran, and there's those guys with the power to tell women if they look too immodest or what not, telling her that her shirt is too tight or something like that to which she answers what's written on the icon because she's awesome like that.

Regarding #2I assume you haven't seen the massively awesome anime series that is Revolutionary Girl Utena? Because I can never rec this series too much. Especially not to people who apprecist feminism, surrealism, mindfuck, incest, symbolism, deconstructed fairytales, and kickass female characters.

#3 I'm afraid that if this icon has a story, I do not know what it is. I just picked it up because I thought it was pretty.

#4 was made, like, two minutes after the announcement of the HBO casting and one minute after I saw a friend saying that soon enough we'll get endless jokes about Boromir & Ned. :D

If Silhouette and Sarah Connor dated, the world would end in an explosion of awesome.

#3 the pic shows Saionji a character from Revolutionary Girl Utena, who is there looking all cute and adorable a a child even though in the series he's sullen teenager who slaps women *ahem*. Anyway Saionji has a whole thing about missing his childhood when he had his best friend Touga, but then one day they found a young girl who was hidden in a coffin because her parents had just died, and she thought that since nothing was Eternal in the world she didn't want to live on. After that weird incident, Touga and Saionji stopped being as close friends, and Saionji kept being obsessed with the idea of chasing eternity which would bring him to the person he is at the beginning of the series.
"he childreen green and golden follow him out of grace" is a bit from poem by Thomas Dylan, Green Fern, which is about a child having a glorious memory of his childhood, but Time coming eventually to end all this.
Well, that was a lengthy explanation.

#5 Michiko and Arianne would be massively hot (and hotheaded) together ♥

You know there's a new Vorkosigan books which should show up soon-ish?

#2 -- I ... have not. In fact, I totally failed to relate it to any fandom at all. I suppose I was confused by the quote which is reminiscent of the "One Ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, one ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." I... do tend to be slightly obsessive where Tolkien is concerned. Utena sounds interesting - it's not the first time I hear about the series. I checked out your essay, and will have to get back to it when I have brain enough (and possibly after I checked out Utena). I, er, just finished one of my own (on dystopias, in case you wondered) - and my brain is kind of fried.

#3 -- this icon is then perfect, because it's both pretty and intriguing. Did you ever do the icon/fic meme? I would totally pick it up for that meme.

#4 -- oh dear. It's kind of perfect. I kind of love it a lot.

about SKU: Yeah, the icon does make reference to Tolkien's One Ring, of course, but when you know the series, the comparison actually makes sense and is quite clever (althouh it would have probably be even more fitting to use the nine rings).
Haha, that essay wasn't really meant for people who haven't seen the show, it must be very confusing like that?
Essays are fun! Are you gonna post that essay on dystopia on your journal? I'd love to check it out.

I never did the icon/fic meme (I haven't written a fic in ages ;_;) what's the meme about exactly?

Indeed! Credit to [livejournal.com profile] gogoratchet for it ^^

I'll have to check Utena out - I'm honestly woefully ignorant of anime/manga things. But I will, er, eventually. When I'm not buried in essays and readings and seminars etc.

Dystopias and the Collective Unconscious is now available for viewing. Thanks for being interested !

The Infamous Icon Meme was going around this summer. It generated crack, fic, and lots of icon love. Hoodles of fun in a bucket.
