Mighty Avengers 21-36
Read in order to complete my Amadeus Cho reading - for which it's actually pretty disappointing (also had my two least favourite Young Avengers & Quicksilver - I guess it does complete other stuff I've read pretty well). Decent otherwise with some fun moments but also a lot of dorky moments. Hank Pym really is the only character with solid characterisation through out though; and even there the writer seems to be under the delusion that having him go "SCIENCE!" loudly enough will trump having some actually good storytelling/plotting around scientific (even very pseudo-scientific) ideas. Art very inconstant (which is a shame, as I really liked it when it was being good)

And, lest you guys think I've been doing nothing all this time, I'm also 25 issues into Nightwing (which is good but a bit dry), and 6 issues into The Question (which is very good). I'll have more to say later

Irrelevant is an art-form and I am its master.

Because I haaaaaaaaaave to ask: which Nightwing issues? (Because if you mean the Dixon run, I agree so very much. 'xcept #10, which is suitably creepy, and #25, which is suitably adorable.)

yes, starting with the beginning of the Dixon run :)

25 was adorable indeed :); the 10? *looks up what it was* oh yeah, the hallucinations, that was good! :)

I think Dixon is a bit too slow setting up a supporting cast. It's good he does it in depth at least, but meanwhile, the texture of the story suffers from it (at least the action scenes in general are very good).

#10: Dick is scared he'll become Jason. And Ghostly!Jason tells him success and failure has no influence on Bruce's love. <3 Robin issues are yummy.

It's funny you mention texture, because my feelings about his run is that while he gave texture to Blüdhaven and Dick's life in it, the stories he wrote tended to be lacklustre. If I have fond memories of his run, it's because of the atmosphere he set, not because of the particulars. (I'd say I also have some bad memories of some offensively disappointing villains, but those are mostly a blur.)

maybe he'll get better at it latter (he does seem to be playing for the long game, which isn't a bad thing), but right now I don't feel like the city & the supporting cast's come alive yet. Too much tell don't show.

Can't help that I'm also reading the Question at the same time, which, as far as portrayal of a corrupted city goes, takes the palm.

It's probably also because it's been long enough since I read it that my memories have gelled into a sort of atmosphere. Aided by manymanymany fics taking place during the period Dick was a cop, on top of that.

*dutifully adds the Question to list of stuff to read, because I? have such a narrative kink for cities it's not even pathetic anymore.*

Nightwing was one of the two big books that I followed when I first *really* got into comics :) (Batgirl being the other) I enjoyed it a lot.

It's definitely not bad :) I think I preferred Batgirl though.

The Question

The Question is great, art and script <80)
Well, I speak about the run from the eighties.
I don't know for the other mini-series, only read
one more, which was fun but not very clever.
