Uncanny X-Men, Claremont's run; up to UXM #166
Started reading mostly out of curiosity (and perhaps contrariness), and at first wasn't very impressed with it though it made good reading late at night for helping falling asleep but the writing of the characters and their dynamic really grow on you and the qualities of the stories overall improve greatly despite a lot of crackful dorkiness (and I think, also the quality of the translation team since I got this one from my public library). So by now I'm rather hooked. It's especially weird to see Logan being so... refreshingly likeable; and to see Storm being awesome; contrasted with more recent stuff I've read. Also Kitty is adorable. And Moira is badass (best intro to a character ever).

[personal profile] flo_nelja who lent me her trades of New Mutants asked to post reviews of them more frequently. And now that I've finished the first one, i'm remembering why I usually wait until I've read a finished or large chunk of stuff before posting my impressions (and why I stopped trying to do WIWs) : I suck at writing detailed, raw reviews. It kind of makes me want to squirm with embarrassment. Oh well. The introduction to the characters is pretty good. There's a certain amount of "wow, what a series of really dorky superpowers". Dani is especially nice and badass; and Roberto especially adorable. Asides from that, i'm amused by how homely Cannonball looks like in contrast with more modern depictions. Heh. Major kudos for how diverse the team is - I don't even think any modern superhero teams manage having so much gender & ethnicity diversity. Which is kind of sad. Also it's amusing how awkward and not very successful they are at the whole superheroic. I kind of appreciate it, it's refreshing. Though the last few stories were a bit too uninteresting (wtf is this team bmx bandit and why should we care about them?!).

God Loves, Man Kills
Good story. Somehow I was expecting it to be much closer to the movie.

While I'm not quite as much into it as Yo!; I do really love stories about young girls (well people in general, but it works especially well with young girls because of the contrast) having to go through hell but triumphing in term of finding inner strength but at great cost of *angst*; so it shouldn't be surprising I loved this Also one story Claremont's kink for corruption really worked well for the story.

There! detailed reviews. *squirms*

I agree about Claremont's run - taken on their own, a lot of the stories are quite dorky but the overall character and plot arcs are just magnificent. And there's *so many* female characters, getting just as much (and sometimes more) pagetime as the male characters.

And I adore New Mutants - there's so much going on in every issue, and all the kids are so different. I could totally live without the phonetic accents, but isn't that always the case?

Et Nightcrawler, tu en penses quoi ?

Logan being so... refreshingly likeable :
