Oh, I'm just frustrated when I find a journal I'd like to explore, but all the tags are pithy one liners which make them useless for that purpose so I can't go anywhere.
I hadn't noticed you used your tags in a pithy way!! I never had trouble orientating myself in your journal that I can remember
(the fact it's never as funny as they try it to be doesn't help either, no).
Yes, my tags are sincere, not ironic, but also not very specific. I have a single tag for all fic recs and for all book reviews. I also have a really weird socio-political commentary tag.
I've considered sorting my recs so that people would be able to find them better. I am not a very serious reccer. I think I'm going to be too busy to sort through my journal, though. Even now I should be messing with my freelance work...
I don't like tags because I like my journal to be as opaque and difficult as possible. Hence randomly private-locking everything every few months, not even tagging with pithy metatextual comments (though it entertains me so when others do it) and so forth.
I don't really post fic in my journal, and I see my posts more like conversations. It'd be weird to dig up a RL transcript of a conversation you had months ago. Damnnnn the permanence of the interneeeet!
It's funny, myself I hate the impermanence of the internet. Feels like everything gets lost that would be worth preserving much faster than we'd think. XD but from a privacy PoV of course, I understand what you mean.
I like BOTH. As in, please be both whimsical and organized at me.
On the other hand, I do not like incomprehensible short-hands for fandoms unless you have the decency to say in parenthesis what fandom your clever title refers to.
Yeah, I don't hate the idea of whimsical tags in itself, I just hate when it replaces the organisation so you can't make heads from toes when you search something.
On the other hand, I do not like incomprehensible short-hands for fandoms unless you have the decency to say in parenthesis what fandom your clever title refers to. Yessss! that's one of those annoying things.
They make sense to me. They're my joke to myself. Any tags I think people might actually want systemized, like my fics, I keep systematically. If it's just one of my rambling posts about nothing, I feel no burden to care about others dealing with my organizational skills. XD *immune to your judging*
Eta: Corrected a word. Insomnia. Makes me inarticulate.
That is a bit annoying, I must admit. I actually kinda prefer the Memories for fandom stuff. I preferred that system to the tags, but people rely on tags more these days.
Should add: I started using LJ years before the tags thing was even a thing. Fandom never used to be so ... organized, and now it's like this giant ~filing cabinet~. I appreciate it! I'm just kind of happy with my own system.
wow really? I never knew some people still used memories! (I also started LJ before tags were implemented, but I still love me tags dearly; I always found the memory tool rather wonky). Well, now I'll know where to find links to your fics, that's great :D
Really? I always found the Memories tool to be... I dunno, I don't like the interface, it has no depth, it's wieldy to use, though it's better than nothing I guess.
I end up caving eventually - it's happened with pretty much every social networking thingamajig, I'll be like "fuck Delicious" one minute and then there's a God-damned 300-some link rec list a week later - but I have some like 3,300+ entries at this point, so being a pithy butthole about tags is kind of a consolation prize in lieu of looking even remotely organized. ♥
3,300 is a very impressive number (I've got less than half of it, through 9 years of posting, damn)!! I understand not wanting to go back and tag those.
Hmm, I'm more likely from day one to be either "I LOVE IT" or "NEVER YOU HEAR ME NEVER?" and stick with it unless I'm really forced by social convention. Tags I jumped and did the retro-tagging very quickly when they started. Delicious I made an account quickly enough too (though I never was a power user). Recently I'm trying tumblr, and the only reason I started is because of the comicstore newsletter, you know? which meant I had to learn it a bit to post for it; but holy fucking shit, I HATE IT. I mean, I love the pics you can find on it, that's why I keep coming back, but I really hate the interface. It is an infinite loop of increasingly freezing my computer and urrrgh. The way you can search tags across the board is awesome though (if people don't use pithy tags, that is).
I have some snarky/pithy tags, but what really drives me up a wall is when people on tumblr write entire meta paragraphs and even fic in the tags. The font is so tiny tumblr have mercy on those of us who have shitty eyesight. :/
