Year in fandom meme

Your main fandom of the year?
Superhero comics, in general, superhero movies as well, in that it's where the fandom is productive with fics.
Your favourite film watched this year?
Thor, I guess. Honorable mention to Nina's Heavenly Delight which I watched a couple of days ago and which was delightful.
Your favourite book read this year?
... wow, I didn't read that many books but what's striking is how few of them I ended up being excited about. I'll avoid nominating a reread book, so not Last Call; and I'll go with The Dragon of Babel by Michael Swanwick and the Persian Boy by Mary Renault (which I only finished reading this year, after having left it drag for a very long while, actually). And that's in a year where there was a new ASOIAF and a new Vorkosigan book. Huh.
Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?
Hmmm. I think Tom McRae's music in general would be my favourite discovery of the year, musically.
Your favourite TV show of the year?
Live action goes to Hwang Jin Yi, though I loved the Good Wife as much as I did last year. Game of Throne turned out very exciting, but quite flawed.
Animation wise, i'll have to go with Wandering Son, for being overly wonderful and touching, Mawaru Penguindrum for being crackfully exciting, and Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes for being overwhelmingly FUN.
Your favourite LJ community of the year?
scans_daily, of course. (shut up, DW coms count).
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Given all the comics I've read this year, it's hard to pinpoint to just one, but if I have to pick one I'll go with X-Men stuff in general. Between 00's and 80's comics, I had quite a lot of things to read; not to mention a lot of lovely fanfics spurred by XMFC. Really X-Men was always something I was somewhat aware of as something I would love, and I finally took the big dive into it.
And if I can mention two, then the Thor fandom, which is absolutely wonderful and has a lot, lot of great fanfics, and is more easily influenced by both comics and mythology as well as the movie, in a way that I find more to my speed.
Honorable mention to Vinland Saga though, stands out as the one manga I've been intently reading all year despite mostly breaking out with reading manga, as well as for having like, five or six fics max for my OTP of it. Oh, small fandoms, why do you always break my heart.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I HAVE COMPLICATED FEELING ABOUT X-MEN FIRST CLASS. Loved the movie, loved being in the fandom for all of two months, then got bored with it, because I'm just more into comicsverse right now and i just don't have the patience for this version of the continuity (and frankly, I often find part of the fandom aggravating). Plus, I have a lot of issues with the movie, much as I enjoyed it, it is quite, quite flawed.
I don't think it would be fair to call Game of Thrones a disappointment given that my very first reaction when hearing about a potential adaptation (that was quite a few years ago, 'f course) was "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!", but it's definitly not quite as good as it could be; and the writing of Sansa and Sandor especially, has definitely been on the disappointing side. Then again, so much more about it does work wonderfully, so we'll see about that in the future.
YourTV fandom boyfriend of the year?
This one easily goes to Magneto XD
YourTV fandom girlfriend of the year?
*scratches head* Damn, that one is harder... last year I said maybe Renée when I read more, but actually turned out there wasn't all that much more to read. Catwoman, perhaps, as the Darwyn Cooke/Brubaker version is ever so awesome. Misty Knight had an awesome run on Heroes for Hire, but again, I feel like I need to read more before I make that sort of proclamation about her XD Likewise Lady Shiva was awesome in O'Neil's Question run, but I'll need to read more stuff with her before I'm sure. Then there are the girls who are bit too young for me, from Cass Cain to Illyana to Anya Corazon to Steph Brown to Kitty Pryde (in Claremont era stuff)... Also Rogue in Carey's run. Though if I say Rogue and Magneto as my fandom Sos, I'm gonna feel ~awkward~. Let's go with Selina.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
The overall effect that both the X-Men First Class and Thor movie had on the comics fandom. And Captain America, but it just didn't seem to trigger as many fics. It's very fun to fandoms start and be full of excitement and love when you're in the middle of it.
Also a dual squee for Kieron Gillen, for both Journey into Mystery - my pick for best on going comics of the year, really; and for his first point one issue on UXM.
The most missed of your old fandoms?
Harry Potter, perhaps, in great part due to geeking out with
runespoor.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
DC stuff, I guess. I've only been reading a few fics here and there, because for the most part I don't feel like I have read enough fics yet; and then there's the problems of the reboot which have soured my interest in reading more of the background of the most mainstream DC stuff - but otoh, there are probably still a lot of things I'd be interested in reading there.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
whoa, good question. Hmm, is it next year that CLAMP should start continuing Legal Drugs?
I'm not all that much excited about the Avengers movie (at least not yet), but it has potential in terms of what it'll do to the fandom (again) - likewise, I'm not very excited by Nolan's movies, but I'm curious about Hataway's Selina. Then there is the X-Men vs Avengers event announced which I am not sure whether to anticipate or to dread. OTOH, I really love what they're doing with X-Men stuff right now, so I'm looking forward to them continuing being mostly good.
For reference, I keep lists of most of what i've read/watched this year over on listography.
