So I have a new obsession
22 Feb 2004 03:12 pmMay that'll get me to update this journal more often ?
Maybe not *chuckles*
No, I don't know wether this one's gonna last long or not. Usually I have year long obssessions.
Before, it was Exalted. Yeah, a bit more than a year of obsessing with that roleplaying game, playing it several times a week, and ofcourse, spending my time in a chatroom with very nice people talking with them about it, and about other things.
Before that, it was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There were a forum too, very nice people too, and me writing so many posts and essays and even fanfics about it.
Before that, my obsession was A Song of Ice and Fire, the fantasy novels by George RR Martin (and all that time, and still the sequel isn't available *sights*)
And before that the roleplaying game Agone...
I think there's something wrong with me ^_^
What can I say, I'm a nomadic soul.
So, right now, thought i'm not sure that'll last, i'm obsessed with Tokyo Babylon and X. They are manga by Clamp in case you don't know. There's good. Nice, angsty, twisted, hate/love relationships like I love 'em.
Here, let's have fun :
If the characters from X where in the world of Mage : the Ascension, to which Tradition would they belong to :
- Hinoto, Kanoe and Kakyou : I put them together because all Dreamgazer should belong to the same one. And here i must add i have no idea which one it should be. Three possibilities : it relates to dreams, and Dreamspeaker are, sort of, those who would be the best for that. But apart from this flimsy aspect, they don't have much to do with the shamanistic Tradition. Another way to do it is to consider they are Seers. The Culd of Extasy is the Tradition concerned with divination and prophecy. But, apart from maybe Kanoe, none of those characters have much to do with the philosophy of the Cult. Maybe the best solution would be to make a Craft especially for them.
- Yuzuhira : now, here's a real Dreamspeaker. The mix of Shinto and Boudhism plus the Dog Kami makes her fit perfectly with it. With a Manifested Avatar adventage or something.
- Arashi : Again, Shinto should probably make it Dreamspeaker, but I want a little bit of variety, so since her cult is especially about the Sun Goddess I think we could stretch it a little bit and make her a Verbena.
- Sorata : I don't think we need to wonder much before making him an Akashic Brother. He's a Boudhist Monk after all...
- Karen : Celestial Chorus, I think.
- Seiichirou : Oh, God, I have no idea ! They refer to the Windmasters as a clan, so it's an occult tradition alright, but no idea with which one they could fit... Hum, what they mention is the idea that strength comes from the heart (but that's an overall theme of X and Clamp's work after all...) which could make it Cult of Extasy i guess... stretching. Stretching a lot. But could explain the appeal with Karen ^_^ Another way to go would be to say, master of wind is the Sphere of Force, and the Order of Hermes are the masters of Force. Except there's nothing hermetic about Seiichirou.
- Subaru and Seishirou : They're both Euthanatos, that seems obvious to me. Subaru is a very good exemple of what most people forget the Euthanatos are about : duty to people that stems from compassion. A duty of helping the deads to pass over, to keep the balance, to prevent misuse of magic. Seishirou is an exemple of what most people imagine when they think Euthanatos, which is the assassin who protects the world with murder. They even use sanskrit chant and mudra, what other clues do we need ?
- Satsuki : It's tempting to say Virtual Adept, but I think she doesn't fit that exactly. She doesn't seem to have a true technomantic paradigm. Her power comes from that computers love her, that's hardly scientic, ever weirdly scientific. Besides, there's a whole theme of kabbalah esoteric in what she does, and the Beast / 666 is very classic numerology imagery, so I'm gonna say Order of Hermes, House Thig.
- Yuuto : another big point of interrogation. I don't remember anything that ties him to any esoteric tradition, so his affinity with water seems only inborn and paradigm-less. If you follow the whole Devil card + whip usage and playboy image, you could stretch it and makes him a Cult of Extasy.
- Nataku : Now, this one's weird. I'm gonna say Son of Ether's experiment ^_^ Could also work as a Solificati Rebis for the androgyne thing.
- Kusanagi Shiyu : I think i'll need to read more of the manga before I've got an opinion on him. Ecoterrorist are classic Dreamspeaker or Verbena, if I'm not mistaken he uses martial arts which could make him Akashic Brotherhood. So far I think Dreamspeaker is the one that fits the most, and explains why he likes Yuzuhira ^_^.
- Kamui and Fuuma : Orphans with a lot in Avatar and in Destiny, obviously.
Maybe not *chuckles*
