I feel like crying

My father gave my computer for reparation because of the connection-disconnection problem I had with the wifi. So they installed a new hardrive on my computer (with 25 Go, which is extremely cool) and Windows Xp. All nice and swell except after I had been bugging him for weeks and weeks to do something about that problem he moved so fast and without even concerting with me to know wether I wanted Windows Xp so now I got my computer back and of course I have lost all my Links, all my saved messages, without talking about my friends' address and I don't know yet which programs on my computer still work, which I've got to re-install and which i won't be able to make work anyway.

The Links loss upset me especially. Those are links I have been collected for years, plenty of different kind and I don't know how I'll do to find them again. And it would have been so simple to save them, but no - wouldn't leave me the time to do that.

I don't even have Word working on my computer and I got an essay to write for monday.

And apparently I am forced to use a 1200 screen resolution and it HURTS my eyes.

And of course he paid lots of money for that, and I suppose I have lots of new things to be able to profeet with this so it would be just ungrateful to complain ! But right now I just feel like crying.

ETA : well, I found some old favourite links I had saved a long time ago. I have none of my recent links about manga, X etc, but I have the more old links, which is good ! *feels better* now I just need to hunt again all my favourite manga and fanfic pages... anyone wanna help ?

Awww...

Aww, that is so awful! and I sympathize about not being the kind of thing over which one can let go some rightful wrath.

Awww, really bad - a warning about saved urls bokmarks and all, they usually ended up dead, I changed computers and lost all those, thought it would be weird, but no problem to start all over again. In fact not sure which browser you used, you might feel free to chance browsers or email systems?

But it still sucks - not exactly sure what happened, if the old disk is still there, maybe the files should still be there and perhaps findable through a file search if not other stuff?

Thank you ! Your sympathy made me feel better ^_^

The old disk is still there, but when windows get reinstalled, lots of things that are part of the system get lost. You can easily save it by copying the files, but this was not done here.

Ouch! Any chance you can try finding the files with dos? Though if you find them not sure what can be done, copying to a A:\ floppy disk at a time or copying them to some directory visible through windows xp? Got really no clue about it, but it might be worth a try in case the other file system is still down there on dos.

I don't think I can... though I'm not very skilled with DOS manipulation as a whole. I think i'll settle for manually finding them again.

TT_TT; Aw, that's really terrible. Something similar happened to me a few years ago, but luckily I found a way to get all of my links and documents back.... and yet, I still cried. ;;

1200 resolution? o_o; Hm, I use 1024x768 and I like it. Everything's a lot less bigger which is nice... x_o;

Good luck with finding all of your links again, mmkay? ^^;

lol,yes it's probably 1024x768, i meant... 600x800 is much easier to remember as far as resolutions go ^^

*huggles* thank you for your support, is very comforting

*HUG* That's really awful- stuff like that has happened to me before, but usually because my computer has got a virus and the drive gets wiped. If you need any help, I'd be happy to look around for you.

Bad virus !

At least this isn't one of those cases, my computer is healthy (but i need a new anti-virus)

Thank you ^_^ I'll try to see how much i can get back on my own

Yeah, very. It didn't exactly wipe the drive- I had to wipe it myself to get rid of it, it was that badly infected. Salvaged some stuff but forgot others. ^^; Though the most frustrating thing ever is the occasions when I've lost my gaming saves. It's happened twice- once when my entire games folder disappeared for no reason, and another where my save files ended up in a folder that got completely uninstalled. THAT was pain.

Good luck!
