A X/1999 drabble :

Three minutes before midnight, Kamui kills Kamui, and blood showers the both of them when the blade finds the heart.

Until the end, the sob-shaken boy watches the eye of his twin star, expecting a shift as he repeats his name, over and over.

"So, you made your choice." The Kamui of Earth sounds neither pleased nor appalled, showing only the tender cruelty of an implacable wish-granter.

Then he shows nothing but a glassy look.

One minute before midnight, The Kamui of Heavens abandons all hopes.

Clinging the still body, he waits for the end.

At midnight, it comes.

Exhibited when he and Kamui made their promise

Hmmm *checks the manga*
That's not exactly how i see it. In my translation (in vol1) Kamui says he wants to become Kotori's wife, and Fuuma says okay, but only if you promise never to hurt her and to protect. They do the little cross finger promise thing.

Of course I know there's another scene where Fuuma, then Kotori, promise protecting Kamui *needs to look more*

oh right----- the following of that scene is in vol6
Kamui says : "i promise"
Fuuma goes on "ok then I too, if you promise to always protect Kotori, then I will protect you Kamui. (big one page pannel) if someone makes you cry, i'll protect you from them.
Then Kotori jumps in (she's the jealous one i guess ^^) "me tooo ! if someone makes you cry, i will be very mad ! I'm not very good at that, but I will be mad anyway."

So i don't really see Fuuma acting out of jealousy in this. In fact Kamui never promised to protect Fuuma that I can see. That is, if the translations i got are allright...

Fuuma (in a gesture totally inappropriate for the completely sane) dips a few fingers into the blood and proceeds to lick it and smear a bit on his face.
*nods* not in vol 2 i think, but i always understood that Fuuma was acting as "Kamui" in that scene. In fact in the scene we see this flash back Kanoe (i think or maybe Hinoto) is narrating saying that that day Fuuma took the first step into being Kamui's twin star.
Though I suppose that's only depending on how much you think "Kamui" is of Fuuma's real personnality.

Hey ! I like Dork!Fuuma too. It's jsut hard to pay that much attention to him compared to the sexiness of Kamui!Fuuma ^_^

Pfft. I don't read the english translation, I'm too 1337 for that. ;P To me from the language they use in the japanese ver. it sounds more like I described. Might be different in the english ver.

And I personally think that 'Kamui' and Fuuma have to be more intertwined than clamp lets on if he was exhibiting that kind of behavior at such a very young age.

yeah, show off you mad japanese skillz... i'm learning and someone I'll show you my japanese fu is better than your japanese fu *strikes a basic shounen pause*
However you just handwaived my long winded argument with a "I know better" ;_; come on, proove it !

I think so far we have some clues about the interelations between Fuuma, "Kamui", and Kamui, but not enough to have a definite answer (well personnaly it puzzles me) I think it's one of the last mystery that will be revealed at the end of the manga (when they eventually finish it) Obviously whatever it is, he was destinned for it at a very young ange (if not since conception); so i suppose you can claim the whole dual personnality as insanity indeed XD
