I'm so ignorant about the customs and specific language of lesbians. I need to do a stage or something ^_^ is saying "I'm a Big Man" a typical lesbian thing ?

Not really, it's more of an I'm just a little bit crazy thing.

Sadly, there seems to be less of a distinct community/culture for lesbians than there is for gay men. I mean, it's there, but there really isn't the same general awareness of it. There's lots of "gay neighborhoods" in the US, but they're really "gay man neighborhoods." Lesbians tend to be an add on. ;__; We need love.

Hmmmm I must say I don't really understand how sexuality could be equivalant to culture. So the whole idea of "gay neighborhoods" sort of disturbing. For be sexuality in general is a private thing, not a community thing...
Of course i suppose it's a consequence of people being segregationnal and stupid about it, and it's got the advantage of making finding SOs easier ^_^ but still, i don't understand and hate the idea of stereotypical gay or lesbian. Why should people who just happen to share a sexual orientation share the same general outlook on life ?

... I think the fact this fandom is so heavily layered with lesbians and bisexual girls might undermine my argument ^_^;;

Hmm, I think the disturbing thing about gay neighborhoods, at least in the US I don't know if there is anything equivalent elsewhere, is that they tend to be predominantly white, rich, male neighborhoods that tend to have some fucked up class issues going on. But I still like the idea of queer communities, because it's just that well, there's the finding the SOs thing, but there's also an appeal in being with a bunch of people who don't think you're freak, you know? It's kind of like fandom in that sense. ^^ Besides, at lesbian gatherings, stupid straight guys don't hit on you. :p

It's hard to express, I guess, what's nice about being in a primarily queer environment or what the appeal of somewhat artificial cues that let others know you're queer. Haha, this is so something I could babble about, but I need to go write papers about entirely unrelated topics. XD

You are right they are a lot of advantages to it - even if some are only because society still think queers are freaks :(
