Fan-ish shame meme !
21 May 2005 12:06 am10 fan-ish admittance of shame. Taken from
hiragizawa
1. I almost always dislike cutesy mascottes. For exemple I strongly dislike the Mokona, and I loathe Kero
2. I used to dislike Clamp a lot and to hold them in contempt when the only things I had read of them were Magic Kingdom Rayearth, 20 Mensou, or Wish.
3. I like Nekoi's art more than Mokona's.
4. The first fanfic-like things I wrote was a parodic porn with bad puns (called "the Blonde, the Redhead and the Brunette", no less !) for A song of ice and fire fandom. I think it's main redemptive value was that it had a femslash threesome. I'm not sure anything can top that on my list of shame.
5. I never wrote any songfic, but once I wrote a song-essay reviewing an episode of Buffy. And no, I didn't really realize what I was doing at the time.
6. I probably wouldn't ever be writing fanfics if not for reviews. Or essays if not for people commenting. I really am that big an attention whore.
7. For all the principles I had about the fics I would NOT read, it seems I find myself breaking them and finding fics I like in which contradict it. That does include rapefics, shota, incest fics, bestiality, mpreg, specific fandoms I thought I would never read, and other various squicks.
8. I don't care about OOC-ness as long as it makes the fic enjoyable to read. And I don't mean only in that parodic way either.
9. I hate it when people do jokingly fake fangirl squeals (the "OMG !1!ONEELEVEN!!1!" kind)
10. I adore Kouri Arashi's fic "and from the ashes" even despite the horrendous characterization.

Date: 20 May 2005 10:15 pm (UTC)#2 - I didn't know it was by CLAMP back then, but I saw parts of the MKR anime when I was fourteen or so and didn't like it at all. Even now I think it's mostly crack.
#3 - So do I. I think it's because I started with CCS and I got used to it. (Mokona's art can be gorgeous, though, like the Kendappa drawings).
#8 - OOC is a pet peeve of mine. If I put up with it, there better be a *good* explanation.
#9 - Guilty, but I'm getting quickly tired of it...

Date: 20 May 2005 10:24 pm (UTC)Purely because he's a cutesy mascotte, really. I don't dislike Suppi as much, but that's probably because he's got more of a "cat" personnality...
I'm always annoyed by the fluffy sidekick. Very few counter exemples I could think of... maybe the ones in the Miyazaki movies, that's all.
I do agree that Mokona's gorgeous. But it's more a cold aesthetic appeal to me, without much of a feeling attached to it. In find Nekoi's style just more elegant, and it makes me /like/ the characters more.
OOC is a pet peeve of mine. If I put up with it, there better be a *good* explanation.
Heh, it seems it's a pet peeve of most intelligent fangirls, really. I'm always the only one who feels "oh well, that was wildly ooc, but i still liked it"
Guilty, but I'm getting quickly tired of it... It's just one of those netspeak I get irked at because I've never seen /anyone/ talking like that in a non parodic way. I don't know, strikes me as a bit hypocritical.

Date: 21 May 2005 01:01 am (UTC)Because I have seen that SO MANY TIMES. And in fact used to be guilty of it when I was about 13. No, really, if you're that scarily hyper active and young you want multiple exclamation marks to the power of ten, and you just... hold the shift key down, and stop holding it down too early, and can't be bothered fixing it... *shifty look*
That's why I still find the OMG!!!one!!eleven!!1 thing funny. It has personal relevance. *g*

Date: 21 May 2005 11:02 am (UTC)2: I didn't know who CLAMP was until I got into CCS, so... Then the first thing I read in manga from them, apart of some CCS chapters, was a little bit of the first X volume. So no chance to discover the "bad" works first. Also, I was less cynical at the time I read Wish and all the others.
3: So do I, but I like both anyway. Still, Nekoi's new style > Mokona's new style. A lot.
9: I do that sometimes *guilty*

Date: 21 May 2005 03:38 pm (UTC)There were more than 2 SM cats ? *curious*
Well, I even hate the current Mokona. Despite the funny interaction with Kurogane ^_^
I think CCS was the first work from Clamp I started to really enjoy, and it was more because of the anime (and because it was on at a time when there was a desperate dearth of anime on French TV) For the first time, I didn't mind it was so sweet and sugar coated. Plus, Sakura's brother was HOT. (I remember when i was faintly ashamed of myself for thinking that)
So do I, but I like both anyway. Still, Nekoi's new style > Mokona's new style. A lot.
I like both as well, but Nekoi's much, much more. Of course I usually care about stories much more than art in any manga.
Now looks like everyone on my flist feels guilty about n°9 XDDD please don't be. It's a list I'm ashamed of because being irritated by that is very silly of me ^^

Date: 24 May 2005 10:28 am (UTC)I give up. From now on I'm going to call all my friends "Jane" indescriminently. What's the point of names anyway ? *hides herself in shame*
Sorry sorry Courtney. I tend to think of you by the nickname not name. Could we keep in touch via aim/msn/icq/whatever now that you left lj ? I'd hate to loose talking to you.
