from [livejournal.com profile] the_corbie *waves* Hi, what's your nick at Rand's board ?

You scored as Captain Jack Sparrow. Roguish,quick-witted, and incredibly lucky, Jack Sparrow is a pirate who sometimes ends up being a hero, against his better judgement. Captain Jack looks out for #1, but he can be counted on (usually) to do the right thing. He has an incredibly persuasive tongue, a mind that borders on genius or insanity, and an incredible talent for getting into trouble and getting out of it. Maybe its brains, maybe its genius, or maybe its just plain luck. Or maybe a mixture of all three.

!?!?!? What. Pirates are not action heroes. What?

Granted, your result is the most awesome human being on the list, but still. Pirates are marvelous dirty beasts out for plunder, not caped crusaders with guilt issues. ;;

well it depends what we mean by action heroes. Maybe action protagonist would be better.
Pirates certainly do with the swashbuckling, jumping around, fighting thugs, going into adventures & generally kicking with style implied by action movies. Maybe that's it ?

I suppose that to me 'action hero' denotes a certain, how to say, aesthetic? Certain cultural mores? They may be crude, womanizing bastards who take a bit more joy than is seemly in executing their enemies, but they are ultimately massively idealistic and serving a Higher Purpose of some sort that is supposed to redeem their actions.

Pirates, on the other hand, serve only their own selves.

(It also seems a peculiarly modern term, which is why it seems a bit anachronistic to apply it to pirates (or William Wallace, but that just seemed like a weird choice to begin with).

but in this test, they're all characters from action movies. Hence a post-modern re-exploration, romantic and idealistic, of archetypes that are no such things in nature, such as the pirate.

though I'm not sure Braveheart was an action movie...

Ahaha, is that where William Wallace came from? I've never seen Braveheart so my reaction was just one of "meh? Of all the random historical figures?" It does make more sense in that context. But Capt. Jack is still so much more swish-swish femme than the rest of the lot. (He is subverting the dominant paradiam of action hero-ness? XD XD)

yeah William Wallace is from Braveheart.

swish-swish femme ? XDD I guess he's the subverting element, possibly. The action hero isn't anymore whom he used to be.

Not that Keannu Reeves is much more virile.

YES. ♥ They are filthy, mean people who do not save people/humanity or whatever it is heroes do these days.. I'm a little amused with Sparrow even being considered an action hero. When I think of 'hero', I don't think pirates XD;

Yeah well, I think it's got to do with the fact that for lots of people (especially guys) "Hero" is more a term for "someone who kicks ass", and pirates do definitly kick much ass.

Often the hero's ass, I suppose ^.~ I still think it's sort of funny for some crazy pirate to be a action hero, but anyway.
