I'm thinking about making a reading & reviewing journal. A place where I could talk about all the books I read, whether I've liked them or not.

Alternatively I'm thinking about making it a community, somewhere where all like-minded people could review books they've read.

Would anybody be interested by something like that ?

In a R&R community, you might include manga and other print material like comics, along with books. I mean, does it really need to be exclusively one or the other. ^_^;; I don't know about the fanfic thing though... Hmm...

And if you did that you'd have to have a set labling system of some sort, like Manga - Title, and Book - Title, and maybe Fanfic - Series - Title if you decided to include fanfics. I don't know. *hides* Mer?

It sounds interesting though. ^_^ I like it.

Yeah, I don't think they're self exclusive, i wanted to see who was interested by what (maybe i should do a new poll on that more specificaly)

Lots of good ideas, thanks for the imput !

*curious* you keep using "mer", what does it mean, where does it come from ?

...it's kind of a cat noise, in my case at least. XD Much in the same way I used to say "smurf" a lot. *glomps* And I'm not really sure where it came from. XD

I am interested in anything you have to say on books here or elsewhere ( bloglines are my new addiction). But, and me not into fandom enough to understand, why don´t you do it here?

About reviewing, well I do go on about books ( when I finish any, which is not much of the case lately) but never coherently to call it a review - not sure I want to review it, review implies objective and synopsis which seems like too much trouble, I tend to just try to put my mental finger into whatever impressed me, positively or negatively in the book and blab about it.

Well, of course I could, and I have. It doesn't have much to do with fandom, more with organization. It's for the same reason I've got a fic journal and an icon journal. It's a space where I can deal with a very specific subject that might not interest everyone who reads my journal, and that might interest people who do not read my journal. It's leaves my personnal journal free-er for posts that are about me, myself and I. It might motivate me to post such book reviews more systematicaly than I do right now too ^^
and there's the book club aspect if I do the community that also appealed to me. Be cozy and friendly on a community where we can share the fun we had readings books and reccomand stuff to each other ^_^ (not that I don't have that with you and a couple of others, with this journal, but it might be easier to gather people for that in something made for it)

Book club cosy sounds fun - but any community building can be a bit awkward, sometimes it´s the non book or out of topic bits which give a sense of self. I am interested of course, if you are going to talk about books I will stalk around ;) it´s just that a blog is really liberating in a way that it´s yours and you can talk about whatever you feel like no need to worry if it is too obscure or too low brow. Talking about books to others can often lead to well pompousness and some posturing ( I think you know the way to a couple places where I could point you some really good examples). Plus with people with real different tastes, the no feedback because nobody reads anything in common with you or everybody seeming to love stuff you think is utter dreck can be offputting. Not to say it is not a good idea, the book club aspect, the opportunity to get to meet better book tastes of others, and such.... Just an feeling like the grouchy old men in the Muppets ( ahah, just got my hands on a copy of the Muppets Christmas special!)

Huh ! I'm not finished !

I hear you ! I'm in three books right now, Norrel & Strange, Vampire Hunter D, and Wolfe's the Wizard. All at their beginning though I started them more than a month ago. I read something like one chapter every two nights, I'm so tired after work.

Hmmm, I didn't necessarly think of review as a very structured formule. Just enough to give a feel to the people who haven't read it, and to give food for discussion for the people who have and want to discuss it.

I'm definitely interested, but OOC would it only be a specific type of book? I tend to oscillate between popular history/biography and fiction; would this only be for fiction?

Nothing decided yet ^_^

If enough people are interested but for very different genre, it will probably be open ended... I read mostly fiction myself (and sci-fi / fantasy almost exclusively as well) but it could be must more wide ranging than that.

Glad to know you're interested !
