Just saw X-Men 3 :

Overall not a bad movie, but probably my least favourite of the three. Though the moral dilemnas were interesting and well set (remember me of a short story by Greg Egan about Scientist finding out how to effectively "cure" Homosexuality), there were too much cheesiness overlaying the important plot points. Too much was predictable and I found myself not much emotionnaly involved with the characters. The writing of the dialogues was I think not as smooth as they'd been before and I get a feeling of lack of finish because of that.

They probably did better in the usage of their powers cleverly in various plot points than they did before, but I hardly care about that ^^

I love Kitty Pride. Total fangirl. Best moment of the movie was her against Juggernaut.

I really loved the symbolical usage of Angel. He's character wasn't important as such, but he really brought a poetic intensity to the story.

Beast was simply perfect.

Storm bored me as usual. So did Iceberg, but that's no fault of his ^^

I really liked the conclusion of Rogue's storyline, small as it was, it was fitting and well done.

They mostly wasted the Phoenix storyline. Though I'm hardly a Scott fan, and even though his death had a use to bring down the "anybody could go" feeling, I think they probably shouldn't have killed him. The story lacked resonnance because of it.

I love Wolverine, I really do. But they should learn not to use his character when it doesn't bring anything more. Cool anti-heros are cool because they're not center-stage, otherwise they lose cool points.

Lastly, CharlesxEric OTP.
And the very last scene was very clever ^^

Hey! Just got back from seeing X-Men 3 myself!

I rather liked it and found it emotionally engaging in a way the previous two weren't. The film wasn't overlong and it didn't linger unnecessarily. The pacing suited my mood, I suppose. I thought the Mutant cure issue worked well as a metaphor for both mental illness and (as a divisive topic) abortion.

I too thought they wasted the Phoenix storyline and holier-than-thou Storm was indeed a yawn. No real stand-out characters in this one and I appreciated that.

And the last scene? We all knew what had passed before wasn't an endgame:D

lol I guess it wasn't long enough for me, at least not for everything they tried to squeeze into the story.

The Mutant cure issue was good, I agree. I can see the mental illness issue as well, indeed. Or you could make a parallel to the Deaf culture... lots of interesting metaphores there.

And the last scene? We all knew what had passed before wasn't an endgame:D
Yeah, Eric shan't stay without an opponent play long, it wouldn't be fun ^^

Hee! Guess not having read any of the comics was a good thing re: storylines squeezed into a short, compact film:)

Haven't either. I just didn't like the pacing ^^

The comics I read tend to be more slightly more indy. At least, rarely superheroic.

Ditto with the CharlesxEric OTP, I have to say. And did you stay until after the credits? Speaking of the moral issues. Because we just happened to, and Charles transferred his mind into the coma patients body from that training video earlier in the film.

Beast was AWESOME, I love Kitty, and I agree that I liked the conclusion of Rogue's storyline, especially how Bobby said "but that wasn't what I wanted" and she says, yeah, I know, it's what *I* wanted.

I don't think they should have killed Scott off. And I'm still tossing over whether they even DID, because the non-conclusiveness of him just disappearing drove me crazy.

I loved the way Angel was used too.

And I have to say, I'm kind of glad Jean is dead. Maybe for real this time. I don't mean that to sound as horrible as it does, but I really, honestly don't like her, and her presence on screen always seems to detract from the movie for me. She's just too much of a Mary Sue for my tastes, and I can't see anything about her that could actually be expeted to 'tame' Logan. (Putting Scott aside, because their relationship made sense.)

Anyway, that's my 10c worth of opinion out of the way. :D;

That's what I meant when I said the very last scene was very clever ^^

Didn't they say they wouldn't make any 4th movie ? So point is moot unless you want to fanfic it (I'm sure many people will ^^) Though even if he's "alive" not having him for the Phoenix' arc is a waste. Err, I guess fanficcers can get hr back as well ^^

lol. I never really disliked Jean, but yeah, I had troubles finding the romance with Logan realistic. Whatever ^^

Something was a little off with the pacing, I think - you could really tell it's another director. I would have liked a little more Angel, and perhaps an explanation of exactly why Jean killed Scott, instead of having a thralled and trained human laser at her side...

Yeah, makes no bloody sense. We raised the point with my friends after the movie, and one said that they did have sex on the beach and then Jean blasted Scott when she orgasmed *poof* Makes even worse of the "powerful female must die because uncontrallable" clichée, but at least works with the Phoenix' nature.
That, or Scott was really bad at sex (all that alcohol isn't good for endurance) which got Jean peeved, and *poof*...

I agree about the pacing and cheesiness. I think part of why I enjoyed the movie so much is that I had really low expectations for it. :P (I'm usually bored to death by movies based on comics.)

Charles/Eric OTP, indeed.

Well I liked the previous movies, so I guess I did have some expectations.

Is Iceman called Iceberg in France?

Oh and about Charles and Eric. I swear in Ultimate X-Men Eric hinted at it by saying how he spent years sharing a bed with him. I can't remember it exactly. XD;;

Err, no idea. That's me not paying much attention and not caring much either.

Swell ! I have great expectations for the Ultimate thingies. I might even read them some day. Except they keep spawning, which is somewhat daunting. Superhero comic books scare me with their multiplying thing. I haven't even read the Joss Whedon ones ^^

Hehehe. I just looked inside the magazine you sent me and he is called Iceberg. I found it funny Storm is called Tornado. XD

Ultimate is pretty good. I'm right now in a story that is dragging but the first story with Magneto was awesome! And Cyclops... mmmm. XD;;; I don't like how Jean is portrayed in the first 1/3 of the series with the short hair and the slut-like behavior.

Oh! Joss Whedon's is great! The first run is about the Cure.

lol I didn't even know ^^

I only checked out the first of the regular Ultimate thing, and the first crossover with X Men (which didn't make any sense to me because I didn't know the characters)
I thought the regular Ultimate story was pretty good. I'd like to check out the one for X Men some day, if I find someone I can borrow it from ^^

Oh! Joss Whedon's is great! The first run is about the Cure.
Oh, that same storyline ? I wagger he does it better ^^
Is it out in TPB yet ?
