Passed the get that FUCKING nav bar away from my journal (and communities) reaction, I'm just confused about why there's even an option for imposing this on all visitors of your journal.

I mean, the whole reason that lots of people don't like a navigation bar is because aesthetically it doesn't work with whatever graphic configuration you made for your journal. It's an alien block that's there, and supposedly useful for navigation when you're visiting other journals. Having it on your own journal is pointless because you usually have all links already there ! Forcing it to others visiting your journal is none of your business because it's not YOU it's going to help. The only thing you should have as an option is having turned on, for yourself only, when you visit other people's journal so that you can go back to your own in only one click (instead of two, so that rather limited as help goes *rolls eyes*)

Regardless, I really don't want to see that ugly piece of ware again. I want to turn it off from everywhere I go. AND I DON'T WANT TO HAVE THEM TURN ON THINGS WHICH I'D ALREADY SAID NO TO WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.

Thanks Livejournal. First time I had to rant about anything.

[livejournal.com profile] _sasayaku made a post about how to turn it off just an hour ago. Did you check your flist?

I did see. I'd have no problem turning it off on mine, and I saw there was a way to try to turn it off on all browsers... but it looks rather complicated. If I have the time this evening I'll try to do it.

For me, all it required was unchecking two simple boxes.

Unchecking it from my journal was very simple yes. But I'm annoyed that I have to see that bar on every other journals and communities I go to that don't have remove it.

Guides on how to get rid of it in practically any browser

I'm using the Firefox/Stylish combination and it works fine. Not a single one of the ugly things has appeared since I installed it.

Thanks, but I use IE, so I'm a bit wary of using something marked "UNTESTED" ^^

If you're using IE, you're already using something that is essentially being tested on its users anyway. ;-)

Word. I usually don't complain about changes in LJ, because my own layout is pretty much all I see, but the nav bar is the most annoying thing ever. I've turned it off on my LJ but I still haven't tried if I see it on others...

Yeah, I don't usually complain a lot about LJ. But it felt very rude to me, and now that bar appears on every single LJ, incluiding the communities, which haven't turned it off once more. I had to remove it from togakushi shrine as well, but there's plenty of comms out there where the mods won't think of doing it quickly.

Yeah, I was really mad when I saw that the navigation bar had just "enabled" itself. I probably wouldn't even mind it so much if it weren't 1)ugly as sin and 2)completely pointless.

Yeah the practicality of it is very limited, even if it wasn't so ugly -_-;

They warned about that sometime ago. I don't remember what exactly reason they gave for it being turned back on, but they said that it would happen.

I remember seeing a warning on my flist about that if you didn't turn it off explicitly it would go for everyone. I did turn it off explicitly then.

It still went on for everyone everywhere (as far as I can see)

I'm pretty unhappy I can't turn it off for everywhere. I really don't see the point of forcing that bar on everyone, even as an option (and as they did it's the default)

Huh. Weird. I just went to turn it off on all my journals and one of them didn't have it turned on. One that was created after the navigation strip was introduced which obviously means that I turned the thing off during the creation of the journal. Otherwise I know I never bothered for as long as it wasn't showing.

And I don't see it either, really, but LJ does a lot of dumb things in general.

Weird stuff, heh ?

Oh well, now I've installed the "cheat code" thing catie linked to and it sees to be working fine. Trouble is, it won't work at work >_>;

Maybe it was just some bug or something.

You're not supposed to do read LJ at work anyway though XD In theory XD

Heh, I'm so with you on this. I don't log on to LJ for 2 days and then when I do, I find the nav bar's been activated without my doing it? Goodness, LJ, we know the nav bar exists! It just so happens we don't want to use it! Is the idea so hard to imagine and accept they find the need to force it this way? The fuck?
