I'll have to beg for a beta, not only someone to correct grammar and typos (though this is good too) but also to discuss plotting & characterisation. I'm unsure about the rules there, I thought anyone to beta was okay as long as they keep their knowledge of the assignment secret, but now I heard we need someone outside of the feast ?

I don't see anything in the rules against it; AFAIK, you just can't talk about who they are or thank them until after the fest is over, since that can give away who you are(n't) writing for.

How do you prefer to work ? (e-mail ? instant messengers & the like ? Filtered posts ?) I've never work with a beta for more than typo screening so I'm not sure how to make it work ?

Email is usually best, because I am fond of the "track changes" and "insert comment" features of MSWord (and thus regularly send back stories covered in scary red *g*).
