I love looking at people's icons, but I don't always *get* them - I often wonder stuff like, "Who's that guy?" or "Where's that quote from?" but I tend not to ask, for various reasons. So come on, here are my icons. Pick one (or more!) you're curious about, and I'll try to explain it. Or at least explain what I like about it.

Is there a story behind "You are not Snape"? Because it looks like something out of a fandom_wank discussion XD

I saw it from someone using it in a discussion, I don't remember if it was on F_W (it might have been), or some metafandom linked discussion, or some such. It made me laugh a lot because I could recognize the feeling, both in others and in myself ^_^ overidentifying tends to lead to wank so it's always fun to mock it. If a story there is you need to ask the icon maker.

black dove setsuka - Lovely icon but it has me wondering.

it's an icon I made for a icon contest where we had to put on the title of a song as text. That song is by Tori Amos, it's a song I strongly associate with Setsuka because of the winter theme (Setsuka dying on the snow), the innocent cruelty feeling, and insanity, and the dark-things-lurk-there-but-nothing-shows theme. It's got something fairy tale-ish about it.

I remember you have an icon with this girl with the words 'This Little Masochist' on it. I always wondered if that was you, and what did the icon mean.

The girl on the icon is Tori Amos, and the words "this little masochist" are a quote from the lyrics of one of her song "Hey Jupiter"

It's an icon I like to use for the "this is just me / this is who I am / this is sincerely me" posts/comments. Revealing but unashamed to be myself things.

Lots of people think this is me on that icon, which is funny because I think I sort of look like Tori Amos does in this icon (even if I don't most of the times).

I'm also somewhat of a masochist, so it fits also when I want to make a post about that :D

as I said to laurus_nobilis it's an icon I saw someone use at some point and it made me laugh because it's true XD I also have the tendancy to over-identify with Snape occasionnaly so it's a good thing to remember ;) also I hate character bashing against the Marauders (and especially Sirius) which I too often see by Snape fen so it works there, too :p

This one is a Harry Potter icon. In the third volume, there are dark creatures called Dementors who serve as guard of the prison of Azkaban who look like Nazgul wannabees and feed of despair and fear. Given the leave they'll even eat the Soul of a person. Anyway, the only way to protect oneself from these creatures is a spell called "Patronus" which invoque your inner mystical animal or something like that that will fight and repell the Dementors. Anyway of course at a critical point of the story, Harry needs to repell the Dementors to protect himself and his godfather who is innocent of the crime he was imprisonned for. So he casts Patronus and succeeds, and his Patronus is a stag.

Thus, Bambi pwned the dementors.

The "wonder falls" one with butterflies. It's lovely.

The icon page I'm looking at does seem to be missing a good many icons other people mentioned (go renew your paid membership and put them BACK, dammit! ~g~). But "My fandom did warn you not to trust him" is from where? It could almost be Snape in HP, but I don't think it is.
