Have you ever been 'converted' to a pairing by a fanfic?

What fanfiction was it? (yay, rec)

In what circumstances did it happen? (were you already in the fandom, were you a newcommer to the fandom and that was the first fic that settled your taste, did the fic bring you into the fandom? etc.)

How did you find this fanfic? (big list of recs, personnal rec from a friend, a bit of a random event? etc.)

How much of a convert did you become (biggest OTP, one of your favourite ships, just one ship among others? etc.)

Do you still love this fanfic just as much, or did you tastes change once you were into the ship?

Has the opposite ever happened to you, has a fanfiction succeeded to repulse you from a pairing on a permanent basis (don't link to it! that could be considered wanky ^^ unless that was the objective of the fic, of course)

Hi. Here via [livejournal.com profile] metafandom.

Have you ever been 'converted' to a pairing by a fanfic? Yes.

What fanfiction was it? I can think of a few off the top of my head. There's probably dozens more I'm forgetting.

Absolution (http://recalibration.adamao.org/absol1.html) by [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre. Buffy Summers/Wesley Wyndam-Pryce was not even a pairing I would have considered in a million years, but [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre makes it work so well. She's written several other stories for this pairing that I've read since then that are all excellent. This story, besides being the first I read for that pair, also gets props for being the *only* Buffy-gets-pregnant story I've ever seen that doesn't fall apart. I never would have thought to make Wesley the father, but given how much of his downfall was tied to being *unable* to care for and to protect a baby, this makes perfect sense.

From the Ashes (http://www.dymphna.net/ucsl/archive/elliedee-fromtheashes.txt) by Ellie Dee (I don't know if she has an LJ). Jonathan Levinson/Amy Madison. Another pairing that I'd never expect to work, but this story left me wanting Jonathan/Amy to become a canon pairing (which, at the time it was written, was still possible). I always liked Jonathan, and I wanted to see him have a happy ending and get the girl. I think it would have been nice, too, to let Amy be redeemed. This story does both.

Hitching a Ride (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2512838/1/) by Meltha (again, I don't think she's on LJ). Harmony Kendall/Jayne Cobb. OK--this one might not really count, since it's a crossover, not two characters who would be likely to meet, otherwise. However, as a character in the fic observes: "Morally bankrupt, kind of evil, and just a little dumb. . . . They're made for each other.”

In what circumstances did it happen? (were you already in the fandom, were you a newcommer to the fandom and that was the first fic that settled your taste, did the fic bring you into the fandom? etc.) In the fandoms.

How did you find this fanfic? (big list of recs, personnal rec from a friend, a bit of a random event? etc.) "Absolution" I found pointing and clicking around Silverlake. "From the Ashes" was recced at the TWOP boards. "Hitching a Ride" was written by Meltha, who is one of my favorite fan fic authors, in general. I tend to read all her work.

How much of a convert did you become (biggest OTP, one of your favourite ships, just one ship among others? etc.) None of these are OTP for me, but they are also ships which I could support and never would have considered without these fics.

Do you still love this fanfic just as much, or did you tastes change once you were into the ship? Still love. However, by the time I had found all of these, I was already a discerning fan fic consumer.

Has the opposite ever happened to you, has a fanfiction succeeded to repulse you from a pairing on a permanent basis (don't link to it! that could be considered wanky ^^ unless that was the objective of the fic, of course) Fan fiction has turned me into a pretty big pervert. There's very little that freaks me out any more (Incestuous RPS BDSM twincest? Bring it on!). However, two pairings that I recall recently seeing that freaked me out for some reason were Philippe/Raoul (in The Phantom of the Opera) and a Keira Knightley/Jack Davenport RPF. I don't know *why* exactly those two squicked me so much, given my high fan fic tolerance level, but I had to shut down my browser and hide under my bed for a week after that.

As someone who is near unsquickable, but will flinch and run when I read the wrong pairing fic, I can definitly relate XD

Boy, these all sound like very fun, interesting crack pairings. You're tempting me to get back into Jossverse fandom to read them. It's so much fun when people get a ship that make people go O_o;; and actually make it work well ^^

Thank you for answering!
