Have you ever been 'converted' to a pairing by a fanfic?

What fanfiction was it? (yay, rec)

In what circumstances did it happen? (were you already in the fandom, were you a newcommer to the fandom and that was the first fic that settled your taste, did the fic bring you into the fandom? etc.)

How did you find this fanfic? (big list of recs, personnal rec from a friend, a bit of a random event? etc.)

How much of a convert did you become (biggest OTP, one of your favourite ships, just one ship among others? etc.)

Do you still love this fanfic just as much, or did you tastes change once you were into the ship?

Has the opposite ever happened to you, has a fanfiction succeeded to repulse you from a pairing on a permanent basis (don't link to it! that could be considered wanky ^^ unless that was the objective of the fic, of course)

I have been completely turned off Remus/Tonks by one particular writers work, turned off to the point that I vehemently pray that Tonks will die or Remus I don't care which, just so the relationship dies as well.

I can't say that before I read this writers stuff that I didn't like the idea of Remus having someone in life because I did like the idea. From the second Tonks appeared OoTP it was obvious she was set for Remus and from the way he introduced her to Harry, it was clear he fancied her. So I was happy to see how the relationship would work out.

Then I started Britpicking for someone writing Remus/Tonks stuff when there wasn't much of it about and the first few stories were good, they were intelligently written and seemed to stay with the character and how he might behave outside of the Hogwarts influenced situations. But then the reviews went to the writers head and she changed the way she was writing making Remus into the hero protective type who ran to Tonks aid ever second, ignoring the fact she was an Auror and should be doing the taking care of if anything. I even tried to tell the writer that actually the Remus type of man exists in the UK, there are a lot of them and they never do the macho hero thing, they are always articulate and well mannered in all situations. Finally I kept getting nightmarish images of He-men looking Remus fighting all before him to save his stunningly beautiful and weak as water Tonks and enough was enough.

Thanks to this writer I now hate this ship and I pray as I said that either die in the next book. Poor Remus what a fate, as if he hasn’t had a hard enough life now he is to end up with tacky Tonks.

Oh dear, what a terrible experience. Even before HBP then?

I do hope they won't die. I hate the idea of them together, but I rather adore them separatly ^^

Thanks for answering!

Lol, on the world devastation scale its insignificant really.

But we do get attached to characters don’t we and as the saying goes, love is blind, (it must how else do you explain Snape fans0.0) so while I might hate the ship, I am sure it is equally giving others warm fuzzy moments (she says shuddering at the thought) and that I guess is what fanfiction is about, and of course you can just sit down and re-dress the balance by writing your fiction just how you want it to read.

Oh I will settle for them just breaking up, anything but them being together, it just seems the only way to get them apart now is to kill one of them. Sadly Jk is born under a very romantic star and writes romance like a diabetic in a sweet shop through a haze of hyperglycaemic euphoria. HBP was definitely a lesson in what not to do with characters you want to fall in love.

Thanks for the reply and nice chatting to you.^_^
