Have you ever been 'converted' to a pairing by a fanfic?
What fanfiction was it? (yay, rec)
In what circumstances did it happen? (were you already in the fandom, were you a newcommer to the fandom and that was the first fic that settled your taste, did the fic bring you into the fandom? etc.)
How did you find this fanfic? (big list of recs, personnal rec from a friend, a bit of a random event? etc.)
How much of a convert did you become (biggest OTP, one of your favourite ships, just one ship among others? etc.)
Do you still love this fanfic just as much, or did you tastes change once you were into the ship?
Has the opposite ever happened to you, has a fanfiction succeeded to repulse you from a pairing on a permanent basis (don't link to it! that could be considered wanky ^^ unless that was the objective of the fic, of course)

Date: 1 March 2007 06:43 pm (UTC)Harry has no female match in the series. From day one Hermione has been Ron's. (Anyone who says different never saw Star Wars and the cheap gimmick JKR borrowed.) Cho never really was his equal, and Ginny seemed way to flippant about their breakup to really seem like anything worth mentioning.
Granted Harry and Ginny had their share of snogging (or more) in that hour by the lake. I'm sure they got what they expected out of each other. As soon as Harry had something to do he dropped her.
People try to come up with rationalizations for this: nobility, honor, pride, etc. but when it comes down to it, Harry already put Ginny in danger. Breaking up with her put her in no less danger.
The only equal Harry really has is Draco. They fight like Ron and Hermione, Harry is concerned when he finds Draco crying, they have a lot of the same interests.
It's pretty obvious in Book 6 that Draco is realizing what he's getting into with the Dark Lord and switching sides wouldn't really surprise anyone at all. (Or at least, defecting as a refugee.)
For the most part, it's just another ship I read.
