In what circumstances did it happen? (were you already in the fandom, were you a newcommer to the fandom and that was the first fic that settled your taste, did the fic bring you into the fandom? etc.)
How did you find this fanfic? (big list of recs, personnal rec from a friend, a bit of a random event? etc.)
How much of a convert did you become (biggest OTP, one of your favourite ships, just one ship among others? etc.)
Do you still love this fanfic just as much, or did you tastes change once you were into the ship?
Has the opposite ever happened to you, has a fanfiction succeeded to repulse you from a pairing on a permanent basis (don't link to it! that could be considered wanky ^^ unless that was the objective of the fic, of course)

Date: 28 August 2009 05:32 am (UTC)When the first Pirates of the Caribbean film came out I knew with out doubt that Jack Sparrow was different. But I got the vibe that he and Will would be the ship I sailed because... thats what I saw.
Then on the most fateful of days that could only be made true by destiny itself - I went looking for Jack/Will fanfiction roughly a year after the movie. I went to this site called Bella Donna (hasnt been updated in YEARS)and clicked on "Couples." As it turns out, Jack/Norrington and Jack/Will were right next to eachother and I accidently clicked the former.
I had only a passing idea of Norrington. In the movie I liked him, I thought he was a strong noble character but not much else. I read the first story I found there anyways and hooo boy. I have never, ever looked back.
I wish I could say which one it was that hooked me. But I read all of them so fast I quickly drowned in the fantastic ship of Sparrington. To this day, this is my OTP. And somehow Norrington won his way into my heart as my favorite character ever.
As for turned off by a pairing... Oh yes. I got into Speed Racer for a while. It was real fun. X and Speed are related though so I always felt a little weird reading them basically have incest, but they were sooo damn goood! Then one day a trend started where instead of Speed and Racer X being consenting adults, Speed was a 9 year old boy and X was in high school and they were doing the same thing. It was reading pedophile incest and it just threw me right off.
