You know I'm totally failing at fandom right now. I only read one story of the snarry_games,I haven't tried reading fics recced by newsletter in ages, I'm not even considering trying to follow Remix, I'm not readng the fics that we recced to me, and I'm barely reading from the comms I've joined. I even hardly have the focus to concentrate on fanfics by writers I love.

I'm afraid I'm getting tired of fandom. I think HP has been my longest fandom to be in actively at this point. (I was in ASOIAF for about two years, BtVS for a year and a half, one year and some for Exalted, and about a year and a half too in Tokyo Babylon, IIRC). I think it's probably more that I'm tired with lots of things. Very bored with work, for one.

First turn of the French elections also rather disapoint me. Which is silly because there were little to hope for in the first place. The left is doing the same mistake the American left has done for years, which is to count on anti-Sarkozy feeling to get elected instead of having a good program themselves. They forgot about being no such thing as bad publicity.

I've failed at fandom for the past two years. Sometimes it just loses that "ooh shiny" feel. Besides, it's understandable that interests change and people move on.

I know. I think I'm more Fandom is a Way of Life than you ^^ but I often change fandoms, true.

Ah true. XD For a while though, X fandom was a way of life and it was disappointing when I began to lose interest in it. Kind of like "what do I do with myself now?" I'm still pretty listless with fandom as a whole, but here's to hoping that something sparks your interest again.

Fandom burnout is just part of the experience, I think. ;) And you may become un-burned-out after a while or you may not, you never know. But I ♥ you whether you're writing any fic or not. :)

I've been feeling like this for a while myself. I left off even reading Lj for months and I don't have a lot of other hobbies to fall back on either. When I felt like this before I got my passion back after switching fandoms... but I wouldn't know what to do with myself after HP I fear. The thing is so huge it would be hard to adjust to a smaller fandom again, I think.

Maybe it is about time to move on to original fiction... but eh... maybe not. LOL

hmm I don't think I'd mind getting into a smaller fandom next. HP is well organized which is cool, but other fandom can be more... intimate, you know? And slightly less hectic in term of pacing ^^

I think most people experience burn out at some point. I sort of admire the people who stay for years and years on. Maybe you're right about writing original fics.

Honey, welcome to the club. I fail at fandom in the ways you describe at intermittent stretches pretty much constantly, I think. What usually gets me online again is reading a good book, weirdly enough. I usually look up the book's fandom if there's any, and naturally end up scrolling through my neglected flist again. I mean, part of the reason I've been active recently is me getting into the Fables comic series and sort of wandering off into meta land in my quest to follow the trials of SGA fandom :D

Oh, and on that note, metafandom is AWESOME. metafandom + other comms and journals and stuff + feedreader = quadruple awesome, because I'm fairly up to date in minutes, sort of.

So take a step back and get a breather. Once you have a good perspective again you can decide if you want to continue fandoms or go on to something different.
And if anyone thinks less of you for doing something like that, then they are jerks.

And the left wing was disapointing, yes. The only program point I could find from them was to "reunite France". A diffifult task with only 20% of the electorate behind them, if you ask me.
Maybe if they had said "form minority government and rule by compromise". But as it is Sarkozy would have gotten my vote. He just seems braver.

Sarkozy seriously scares me. I won't disagree with the bravery, but he's opportunistic, demagogic, power-hungry, and a crook (not that many people in politics are not crooks). It's hard to determine to what he wouldn't stoop to reach his ambitions. Could it be good for France? That's a hard thing to answer. Generally speaking, I very much prefer a lack-luster, uninspiring leadership to his. I might also prefer an incompetent one (which many people accuse Royal of being), but it's hard to judge the possible respective damage from incompetence and malice.

I don't think I'll quit fandoms. Change fandom maybe, but I don't see myself quitting fandoms anytime soon. I need the escapism.
