What are your top five canon couples?

5. Gen/Attolia (Thief, Queen of Attolia, King of Attolia, Megan Whalen Turner)
Just finished reading this series and they're my brand new lovable OTP. So adorable and mindfucked and fun!

4. Jirem/Simmu (Tale of the Flat Earth, Tanith Lee)
One of my oldest OTP, way before I got into fandom, never tried to find fics for them, in fact. It's one tragic tale of self-destruction and wonderfully genderfucked. (And a very good fantasy series)

3. Shigure/Akito (Fruit Basket)
So totally obsessive, mindfucked and genderfucked as well. How could I not love them? I mean, I always loved Shigure, but the more he's revealed to be his little manipulative, selfish self, the more I adore him, and likewise for Akito's oh so fucked up upbringing (meanwhile, the more the rest of the manga storyline bores me to tear, but let's not mention that).

2. Richard St Vier / Alec Campion (Swordspoint, Priviledge of Sword, Ellen Kushner)
these two are so cute, in a deadly, crazy, fucked up way, y'know?

1. Seishirou/Subaru (Tokyo Babylon, x/1999, Clamp)
antagonism, mindfuck, death scene, duality, sacrifice, eye-loss, reference to the Tower of Babel, this fandom's got it all! How could I fail to love it? Seriously this is the very best pairing in the whole world.

0. Verlaine/Rimbaud (Reality, Anon)
My very first OTP and first introduction to homoeroticism. No, really. Them and Alcibiade. Do I get nerd point?

(there's a certain lack of femslash here. I wish I loved Melisandre/Phèdre enough to put it there >_>;;)

Shigure/Akito is definitely interesting -- though I don't think I've ever heard you mention them before? (how far have you read in Furuba so far? I haven't read the last few volumes, and didn't intend to catch up on them any time soon, but this post endeared me to the series all over again. So I may do that in the near future.)

I'm with you on #2 and #3. Actually, random detail: I was reading over The Privilege of the Sword recently, and noticed that Alec seems to be quite the foodie. o_o.

Oh, I don't think I've mentionned them before. I don't follow fandom at all, because I'm following the French releases, so I'm totally out of rythm with anyone else's, and I've already been spoiled too much. We're up to volume 21, so it's near done. When I'll read the last, I'm going to fall ravenously onto fandom to read fics ^^
(I don't think I ever masked my love for higure, though. He's always been my favourite ^^)

What does foodie mean? ^^

oh, I so *knew* you would love Gen and Attolia - I can´t make my mind up if I love King of Attolia or Queen of Attolia better ( the books. characters, ahem, the king I think), so glad somebody else found those!

Heh I squeed about them before too ^^

Actually I think King's the one I liked least of the whole, I thought the plot was just not quite as good and not quite as twisted (loved the plot-twistiness of the two first), and Gen got to the point where he's so good at everything he does that it's just not fun to see him try anymore. Not that the book wasn't wondeful, witty and lovable as it was...

squee-inducing books are such a wonderful thing aren´t they? I think The Thief is probably my least favorite, but just because I love The King and The Queen. I think you are right the plot is not as good, or not as important as in the other two, but we got tons of fascinating interaction which I just love - plus I love court fantasies. BTW I should warn you these books are incredibly rereadable even when you already know the plot there are details there you probably ( really, no offense on your intelligence ;)) missed. *squee*. Only problem now is waiting for the next book - I think it will have to be about Sounis.
