I'll very probably delete this journal within one week if SA/LJ doesn't address the issue of wrongly deleted journals in a satisfactionnary way.
Currently looking for a good place to archive my fics, if you have any suggestions.

I also just got invited to The Archive at the End of the Universe, but I'm checking out their TOS before I post there - rumors are that they want rights to any fic posted there, and I'm not comfortable with that at all. If they check out okay, though, I can give you an invite there, too.

What you say of the Archive at the end of the universe is worrisome too :(

Date: 1 June 2007 05:27 pm (UTC)You're right about Skyehawke, though they haven't kicked off my Marauders story where everyone is 17 and I clearly labeled it with that info. I'm not sure if it's because they don't know it exists or because in Britain, 17 is the age of majority. I might have to go back and pull it, though - I confess I read the TOS when I started posting there, but haven't read it since. Per Australian law, the age of majority is 18.
Archive at the End of the Universe's TOS is...strange. It definitely states that all content submitted to the site is the property of the Archive:
"You are only authorised to view and to retain a copy of pages of this site for your own personal use. You may not duplicate, publish, modify or otherwise distribute the material on this site unless specifically authorised by The-archive.net to do so. The content and software on this site is the property of The-archive.net and/or its suppliers and is protected by copyright laws. We post a legal notice and credits on pages of the site. You may not remove this notice or these credits, or any additional information contained along with the notices and credits."
It's not clear whether they're addressing readers only or readers and authors. My guess is that they mean this to be a reader restriction, so that our fiction doesn't get lifted and taken elsewhere.
They go on to say:
"However, by submitting or posting content you grant The-archive.net world-wide, royalty free and non-exclusive license(s), to use or allow others to distribute, reproduce or otherwise use the content non-commercially.
Examples of such use include, but are not limited to:
Reformatting an interesting literary discussion from the message boards so that it can be saved in the archives (for easy searching and preservation as message board posts are auto-deleted after a set time);
To preserve fandom history by transferring the fan-work of authors who have left fandom and can no longer be contacted to another appropriate fan site archival that agrees to operate under these same terms of service, if The-archive is no longer able to host their work."
The "non-commercially" relieves me somewhat, but they're definitely saying that they reserve the right to let others access your fic, or to submit it to another archive if appropriate. The examples that they give are for archival purposes, so the implication is that all instances will be archival, but in actuality, the language offers them much more leeway than simply archiving fanfic historical documents.
But hey, I guess for me what it comes down to is that I can't benefit from this work commercially anyway, because the rights belong to JKR. Based on that, I think I'll go ahead and post here - I don't have all that much to lose, after all. *g*
