a. One of the thing I liked with Karen is that they took a stereotype and ran to the ground with it, and because they're Clamp they managed to make her totally original. She's not only a whore with a heart of gold, she's the magical catholic whore - mother who embodies righteousness (her card is Justice)... while wearing lingerie. How cool is that? Also her story is a heartbreaker.
b. Her ability to care, I guess. I like the way she reaches out to Nataku, and other characters.
c. Her propensity to not care about her own well being. That's just stupid.
d. Not very easy. I've got a still-not-finished story after more than a year where I'm trying to have her to have sex with Hokuto to prove so >_>;;
e. My favourite one is the AU drabble where she gets adopted by Setsuka : "In her demon mother’s mouth, words like demonling and hellspawn became words of endearment. Maybe it was okay to be the devil’s daughter if you were loved by your own?"
f.... finishing that Karen/Hokuto story ;_;

Seishirou

a. I first started liking Seishirou in the 'Call' story of Tokyo Babylon, when he goes on his whole speech about 'special people'. I was intrigued. I probably wouldn't have been interested enough to write him without the whole deal with Subaru, though, at the end of Tokyo Babylon. I dig the ship, it hits all my antagonistic shipping and mindfuck buttons.
b. I love Seishirou's sense of humour, he's just quirky and dorky in weird ways, like talking to penguins and I see him as having a lot of morbid humour. He's a fun character to write because of this, and it redeems the assassin side to me (not the assassin as evil, but the assassin as cool character which is a clichéed that annoys me a lot). I like that he has a sweet tooth for the same reason. Otherwise I love that he's such a good liar you can interprete everything he says one way or another.
c. There's this sense of, Seishirou, YOU IDIOT *slap* about the whole Rainbow Bridge business, for not understanding what Subaru wanted.
d. Surprisingly easy, most of the time. I like falling into his world view, thinking of how one sees the world when people are objects and when lying is the first reflexe, but he has to use something to relate with the world, and to appreciate thing. I've tended to make him have an aesthetic and sensual appreciation of the world, because of that. And the morbid humour :)
e. Just one?
"Maybe I could be a very smart wolf dressed like a penguin ?" from Zoomorphism
And the whole of Beautiful things
f. I haven't written anything with Seishirou in a very long time. I would still like to finish The Last Babylon (which is a fuzion fic with The Last Unicorn :)) and Kingdom of Ice, Season of Fire. I've only written one chapter of each, so it's not a very good beginnin :(

Thank you ♥

a. You know I'm not exactly sure of when Regulus wormed into my imagination. All I know is that by the time I joined the HP fandom (some time after I read OotP) he was there. I'd read fanfics before (by Juxan Tang). There's something about his weakness yet decision to leave the DEs, as Sirius mentionned it, that was appealing. It's a tragic story. And there's the relationship with Sirius as I imagined it, with a bigger than life brother and what that could do to Regulus.
b. He's charming and he's good at getting what he wants, but by being the cute, the young one. It's a very underhanded thing, typical of younger siblings ;) He's pretty brave even if he doesn't know it. He desperately cares about his family.
c. Like most Blacks he didn't think things through. He was quieter, but just as impetuous as Sirius. See getting into the DE at 16.
d. Very easy. Perhaps because we know so little of him, my mind warps around him and appropriates him very easily.
e. Their Game overall (which I can't link to or quote from anymore since I privatized after the whole LJ kerfuffle :()
f. I'd still like to write a few stories about him. I always wanted to do one about his death but now we may have too many details for what I want. And there's a story for Heavenly Body. I also wanted to write a fic with him Sirius and Snape with a bodyswap; and I had an idea for a Harry/Regulus one which is jossed. And one story which was "5 times Regulus Black didn't die" again probably jossed.

a. I think I started really getting hooked after OotP. Between the Occlumency sessions and Snape's Worst Memory, and, well, I guess I started paying more attention to HP in general after that, and then Snape was the most fascinating character with the control issue, angst potential, dramatic demeanour and general awkwardness.
b. I love his sarcasm and intelligence. The first ensures the fun dialogues and the second means he's a very big nerd which is a fun thing to play around.
c. He's petty. Except I rather like that. Humm. Lily. Worst trait is Lily :D
d. I haven't written him all that often so I guess I don't find him terribly easy to write. I'm a bit intimidated by writing his dialogues especially because he has a very distinctive voice for most people and I'm not confident in my wittiness to replicate this. However I don't find him so hard to get my mind warped around. He was rather easy to write when seen through Remus' eyes weirdly enough. Err. I'm not sure what's the conclusion is.
e. I'm rather proud of The Opposite of Love
f. Much like with Regulus there's the body swap story and the Heavenly Body chapter. I've also in plans one genderfuck snupin, and there's a raising Harry story I started a long time ago. I started a new story after DH which had Remus/Tonks/Snape but I haven't touched it since. I'm a bit burned out of HP right now so I might wait a bit before writing anything with him.

a. When he started getting so utterly broken and being such a masochist little hanged man. I'm a sucker for that kind of angst. Also he's especially pretty in late X volumes.
b. Empathy and integrity. I love how he connect with most characters and his genuine kindness. I love the way he portrays the Hanged man values. Yielding, yet not weak. Stop me before I write Kushiel crossover.
c. There's unhealthy levels of self-sacrifice, and then there's Subaru's level of self-sacrifice which go beyond the unhealthy and into the realm of nega self-esteem or something.
d. Easy when I'm depressed :) but not that easy either. He can be a bit difficult to drive a story with
e. You know with everything I wrote with Subaru, I'm not sure I ever did him justice. Passing as a whole would be the closer, but it's not brillant.
f. Same as Seishirou.

Mm, I would reply in more detail, but I agree with basically everything here that you've said. :D You know, I've lost a lot of my enthusiasm over TB/X over the last few years or so, but this reminds me of what a great character Subaru really is.

Also, I'm with you on being a sucker for the kind of angst that Subaru embodies. (even with the urge to mock or go '=_=.' at it every so often. can't be helped, it's a side result of my weird sense of humor.)

How would you write a Kushiel crossover with this? I haven't actually read the series, only gleaned bits of information from here and there, so, um. But it sounds interesting!

Who can? XD

How would you write a Kushiel crossover with this?
Oh, it's not an actual story idea. More of a thematic similarity. "All that yields is not weak" is one of the leitmotiv of Kushiel's series (what, with the protagonist being a masochist and a submissive). The fact I was using the same words made me smile. Anyway if one wants to do a crossover there's always Yuuko. Subaru could profit from a nice conversation around tea with Phèdre :) I'm not sure if would be a compelling story though XD

Oh, that's cool. ^_^. I'd be interested in seeing what could be written from that, though I'm sure that without knowledge of the Kushiel canon, I'd be slightly clueless on that front.

Speaking of crossovers, on the anime/manga-specific level, I think that some kind of interaction or other portrayal of Subaru and Anthy in a fic together would be pretty awesome, if done well.

Also, happy belated birthday!

Narcissa? :)

From: [identity profile] etrangere.livejournal.com
a. I'm don't remember when I started liking Narcissa so much, although I suppose HBP was a big mark. I really liked her in the Spinner's End chapter. Her fierceness, her ability to manipulate Snape just right where she wanted him, her love for her family, the complexity of her relationship with her sister...
I also like what we see of her couple with Lucius. That despite being the blonde, beautiful socialite woman at his arms she was definitly a powerful woman of her own (unlike what many fen assumed x_x), making important decision about their son. In a strange way, they appear as the best, most healthy couple out of the HP world >_>;;
b. Like most Black she's passionnate about her loves and hatred, both ruthless and brave about what she cares about. Unlike most Blacks, she managed not to get caught up into more than she could handle. I think in a way she was the most Slytherin of all the Black kids, because of that. She kept her independance the most while protecting those she cares about. She's not an idealist, she's a pragmatist. As I see her, she's also a perfectionnist, very at ease with formalities and society.
c. She's definitly snobbish and arrogant. She's very unlikely to care for anyone she's not tied to, as such she can be selfish. Ideals appeal very little to them, especially not after the first war.
d. Strangely easy most of the time. Witness that Path to hell was the Heavenly Bodies story soonest written. There's another story which went easily 3000 words in in a matter of days before stalling. Of course, it's still stallen, so...
e. The drabble Mirror, which is one of the first HP thing I wrote
f. I still owe to finish that Percy/Narcissa story I was mentionning before. I don't have any big plan for Narcissa otherwise, although she's always a cool character to use in stories in general.

a. I started liking Sirius in PoA, when we thought he was an evil traitor DE who was half crazy and had mysterious powers, to be honnest :) Then he turned out to be still half crazy but not a traitor, and a cool bad boy good guy instead, and that was still great. Then he was still half crazy, but he was also a former cruel bully from a psychopathic decadent haughty family that he had run away from. Then he died. Overall there's little I didn't like, and bewteen what we first knew and what we learned in OotP, I've always adored Sirius. I like him when he's loving, moral, loyal and a caring friend and godfather. I like him when he's cruel, selfish, half-crazy, arrogant and reckless. I love his family and I love that he hates them. I love that he's such an earnest rebel with a cause. Flying motorbike, baby!
b. SIRIUS, HE IS SMART! Like, really, nothing pisses me as much as the portrayal of Sirius as a dumb jock in fanfics. He is intelligent, the kind of very quick, very intuitive intelligence that makes people lazy because they learn fast and they never had to work for anything. (and, ahem, I totally identify with that kind of intelligence, so that's the main reason I identify with Sirius ^^) I like Sirius when he is mean, too, that he could be a real bastard to the people he disliked, and also that he was such a bastard to them because he knew he could have been "bad" and that was his way of distanciating himself from that (yeah, not a success). I like his arrogance, all the superiority complex that comes from his upbringing that he could never get rid off even if he had wanted to. I like that he was cool and composed in prison when asking for the Fudge's newspaper. I like that he's badass and caring enough to eat rats for Harry. I like that he's passionate, that he acts because of his feelings first, and only realizes later than it wasn't such a great idea. I love Sirius because he's such a great Tragic Hero.
c. We never saw enough how badass he could be. I wanted to see him kick ass. Worst trait : drapery :D
d. Very easy. I fairly identify with his kind of mind and he lives easily in my imagination. Language can be more difficult when I know he'd want to be slangy and fake low class accent and I don't have the knowledge of english to capture that.
e. Brothers
f. Like for Snape and Regulus, the body swap story, and Heavenly Bodies ones. I had a vague idea for a post OotP Snack story as well, which I might write someday.

Remus
a. Remus' a sneaky one, I didn't especially liked him until i started reading various analysis and essays about his character, on the angle of his manipulativeness, passive agressiveness and dark sense of humour. Then I read that fic that got me into the HP fandom and I was there.
b. See above ^_^ I love his sense of humour, his low key style. The way he needles with politeness and cheerfulness. The fact he's very practical minded. The fact he's a very good liar. How reserved and repressed he is. His sense of dignity.
c. Cowardness on account of wanting to be too much liked. Not a pretty flaw although it makes him interrestingly well rounded.
d. So-so. He's okay when I'm in the mood, but he doesn't live in my mind most of the time.
e. Last paragraph of Could have been me : "Hatred was a luxury a werewolf couldn’t afford. Remus usually found indirect ways to avenge slights anyway."
f. The genderfuck Snupin. He should appear in the Raising Harry one, too. There was the Heavenly Bodies chapter too... and i wanted to write a story called Homo Homini Lupus. Might still but don't count on it.
