So, three days ago I caved in, after seeing various references to that American cartoon thingie, I thought, okay, let's try it, let me download that Avatar stuff. Surely, it can't be that good? Ooops... actually it was. I started thinking, hey, this is kinda cute, and then went to hey! this is freaking awesome! in a matter of hours.
So I watched the 2 first seasons in those three days, and now my computer is trying to make me crazy by crashing anytime I actually click on the first file of the beginning of the s3. Bastard computer x_x;;
Anyway, I have the urge to babble. Bear with me :
Iroh is my hero. That man is a enlightened being, truely a saint. (Of patience, at least, what with bearing with Zuko ^^). He was my favourite character until we met Toph.
That girl took my heart away at first sight. She's sheer badass brattness and I really, really love her ♥ which kinda make me feel dirty what with the fact she's 12 ^^;; - but please, tell me there's femslash out there?
The main three are of course all adorable, and cute, and lovable. And Zuko kinda grow on you. Like a lichen. That is, when he shows other emotions than anger, wrath, pelutance or sullenness. (If I ever want to run Amber DicelessRPG, he's going to be the best example to show what happens when someone takes too much points of Bad Karma XDD) - and he's hilarious when he thinks he's Clint Eastwood, and the very next episode totally loses at the Mexican standoff XDD.
I also love Azula's gang of girlfriends. Mostly because they're, like, Daria's Fashion club given kung fu powers. How awesome is that?
The storytelling is generally great. It's all kind of awesome to see a cartoon go, hey, you know all those pitfalls all cartoons always fall into? What if we didn't fell into them? And then do exactly that ♥ Consistency, characterization of people as people (including random Fire Nation soldier mooks), just the right kind of mild subversion, good humour usually, good crack when all else falls. Excellent use of setting and action elements. And I love the Exalted!lite feeling of the world of course.
So that was me gushing. Now, I'm going to rant at my computer a bit more. >:(

Date: 30 December 2007 09:36 pm (UTC)And it's true that Zuko grows on you. In season 1 I thought he was well-developed but I didn't really care about him, but in season 2 I started loving him in all his dorkiness. :D
characterization of people as people (including random Fire Nation soldier mooks)
Yes! Even the side characters are great.

Date: 15 January 2008 03:28 am (UTC)Iroh and Toph = best characters ever. I will never ever stop being sad at the lack of Iroh joining the Gaang (so far) because I want Toph-Iroh buddytiemz like a hobo wants crack.
. . . wow, I've never really said anything so offensive to hobos, but, uh, I doubt any of them have interwebs. Anyway -
you know all those pitfalls all cartoons always fall into? What if we didn't fell into them?
Perfect summary of the whole show. XD Exalted!lite is good, too, especially given that my GM told me that Exalted was a lot like Avatar when she was trying to tempt me into joining her game, which is why my character turned out to be a 25-year-old reincarnation of Iroh.
Speaking of which, Iroh = Eclipse caste. Shyeah.

Date: 15 January 2008 03:41 pm (UTC)lol yes they are! I really love how Iroh and Toph are BFF and I'm terribly missing Iroh this season. The only thing that makes it bearable is knowing that when he'll be back he will kick so much ass. ^_^

That sounds... HAWT! you still didn't tell me if there was somewhere where I could read about your exalted characters?

Oh, I hadn't thought of Iroh in terms of Solar Castes. You're totally right. However I think he's a Sidereal. Maiden of Serenity FTW.

Date: 15 January 2008 07:00 pm (UTC)Oh yes, yes it is. It's all that consoles me through Iroh-less episodes, sometimes.
That sounds... HAWT!
He is. =3 His job is to do most of the seducing in the group. His name's Ashoka and he's a tea merchant with a lot of sisters and an airship and a 5 in charisma and socialize and fairy-repelling iron boots. We have a message board that a few of the players use to put up character interaction conducted over AIM, but I can't seem to find it right now for some bizarre reason, but there's always this picture (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/andy_longwood/Exalted%20art/Nunchucks.jpg), of Ashoka and his youngest sister Ma Huang, which is just about the most adorable thing I've ever drawn.
(my GM gives me extra XP for drawing Exalted stuff, so I do. A lot. XD)
