Since it appears several people of my flist are interested and since I know I love those kinds of late to the party (as they call it over at RPG.net) posts, I'll get more in depth on my viewing of BSG :

2e1 to 2e4 (Scattered, Valley of Darkness, Fragged, Resistance)

Those episodes were breathless and action packed and occasionally beautiful but I miss the sense of tight dramatic unity of each episode. I'm surprised they kept the cast separated for as many episodes. Well, we're back to only two main cast now, and that's not a bad thing, but it's already slowed down the pacing considerably. Also surprised they kept Starbuck and Helo on Caprica (WTF is Sharon B doing? She seemed sincere with Helo but maybe she just freaked out and wanted to save her own ass??). I hope that part of the storyline won't stay apart for too long.

I'm almost disappointed they haven't actually killed Adama. Of course without him it would be one giant mess, but it wouldn't have remained the kind of OMGWTF moment which would have really upped the tension (see ASOIAF for reference). Then again, without him it's one giant mess.

yay for Gaeta pulling some cool moves to find the fleet again, I'm really liking him among the secondary characters.

Billy/Dee keeps on being extremely cute and endearing. Seldom do I like the cute couples, but I do adore them. Interesting choices that both Dee and Billy just did, I hope it's going to be okay for Billy.

Roslin keeps up on kicking major ass.

I like Lee best when he makes this kind of dramatic, idealistic choices. So, yay for that. I'm not sure about his sudden "i'm not good at being a soldier" angst though, I'll assume that's due to his latest decision lining up with daddy issue, but it still feels a bit out of nowhere.

I still like Chief. He's an interesting character (does he have a name, btw?)

Cally killing Sharon A was... so hugely stupid I kinda wonder if she's not a Cylon herself. She probably doesn't need to be one for that to make sense, but boy is she not helping anyone in anyway. I was starting to feel quite sorry for Sharon A, I hope she's got uploaded somewhere else and that we'll see her again.

The scenes at Starbuck's apartment's were beautiful (music helped), loved the sense of eeriness and deserted familiarity which I hadn't had so much from the previous Helo sequences (OTOH, Starbuck's suddenly longer haircut compared to S1 kinda distracted me). Then they meet the Resistance and the Resistance is led by a handsome blue eyed and squared jawed guy. Cue sexual tension. I'll be laughing my ass off (although he is pretty... but it's kind of too easy to suddenly find pretty boys leading the resistance on Caprica).

Ellen is hilarious. I love her and her soap drama ways.

Tigh is... pathetic. He needs Starbuck around to yell at him for his drunkard way, trufax. I can't even get angry at him for being such a wreck because he's so lost at being in that sucky leadership position.

Some very interesting development for Baltar. Aww, and he does angst prettily too. Oh, and ruthless conniving interrogation technique, my, he's good. Awesome ♥ See, Starbuck, that's how you interrogate Cylons XD too bad he's not really on the humans' side. I'm kinda missing the funnies though. The show's overall done a big turn for the dramatic in those last 4 eps, and we could do with a little tiny bit of Baltar comedy.

I keep wondering lots about religion in this setting. I was certain characters had informally swore by "God" (outside Cylons and Baltar and stuff) rather than Gods before on, but now monotheism seems to be a Cylon only thing? But now the Lords of Kobol religion seems to get more and more important to all kinds of people in the setting... (even Chief's the son of a priest and an oracle! religion is serious business!) Regardless of how much I like Roslin, I'm not sure I like the way they tie religious themes with political power. Then again, they might set up a biting you in the ass thing.

I wish Number 6 did explain the mechanics of Cylon-Human reproduction to Baltar. Cuz, I have trouble imagining the baby also got uploaded into some other place or into a chip in Baltar's head. (although that could make a fun Athena's reference, I suppose).

BTW, I meant it when I said if you had old entries dealing with those episodes form back when they were broad casted, point me to them. I love reading people's reactions and that's the big inconvenient with watching shows later on...

I generally dislike characters that have no purpose really outside of being another character's love interest.

I briefly liked him in the beginning of season 3... when he seemed to have momentum of his own... but then back... you know?

Agreed. he is boring looking and a little too bulky for my taste. (Admits to sometimes liking Lee for his cheekbones/defined jawline)

When it comes to BSG it's all about the girls for me, candy-wise - although I *love* Gaius's voice.

For me BSG isn't much for the eye candy, despite there being some very lovely women on it.

Galen Tyrol (possibly misspelled) is the Chief's name.

The Colonies' religion is really clearly based on Grecian/Roman mythology and Astrology from the start. The colonies names are probably the earlier clue to that. The Pithian Scolls are clearly a reference to the Delphic Oracle Pithia. The religion stuff is the show is all really weird and I doubt will ever get resolved. Like on the one hand clearly there's some history behind the mythology, and fortuitous things that happen when people follow it, but on the other... Six is totally nuts and she's definitely the most religious character in the show. I do really like Roslin as Moses though.

Looking back under my BSG tag I don't actually seem to have any episode commentary until season 3. Which sort of makes sense since that was the first episode I watched as it was airing (plus I skipped 2.5).

Yeah, the religion of the Colonies is based on the idea of the twelve major Greek Gods being their supreme deities. There was a strong theory that the Thirteenth God of the Greek pantheon who was semi-exiled - Hades - is the Cylon God in the series, but that idea seems to have fallen by the wayside.

Hopefully you'll be up to date by the time Season 4 starts in five weeks' time :-) Plus I can totally use this avatar now.

Yeah, I had kinda made the Greek Gods connection. I was more wondering about the interraction between monotheism and polytheism, whether there was only one religion/main dogma of religion. Monotheism doesn't appear to be unheard of (Baltar doesn't appear to be weirded out by the concept when Six talks about one god, and, as I said, I was certain a few characters had sword "God" in singular previously on, although that could be a mistake of continuity). Then again it could be a religion that mixes monotheism and polytheism in a form like Hinduism (I think that wasn't unheard of for Greek polytheism historically, IIRC, at least among philosophers...)

Hopefully, yes. If the person I borrowed those DVDs from has the S3 too ^^

I think it's more of a continuity error. The Colonials only mention 'God' in the singular in the first couple of episodes. Throughout the rest of the series it's always 'gods'. It is interesting that Baltar doesn't find the idea of a single god strange, but it's quite likely that the Colonists had a number of belief systems and philosophies. There were twenty billion people of them, after all (as we find out much later). The pantheon does seem overwhelmingly dominant though.

Well, so far they look impressively culturally homogeneous for a 12 planets population really ^^ I was assuming bad world building in this.

To a certain extent. The Gemenons and the Sagittarons seem to have different cultural systems to the other Colonies and we find out later on that the Aerelons are incredibly poor (and talk with Yorkshire accents, for some reason), but otherwise the Colonies are pretty similar. Personally, I blame the original series for doing this and RDM for sticking close to the template laid down back then.

I get the impression that if the planned spin-off series, 'Caprica', gets off the ground, we'll see more of the Colonies and the differences between them.

So far as I've heard, the cast members swearing by the singular has always been a continuity mistake. The Colonies are polytheists, but they definitely have religious divisions, with one tradition thinking the other is wrong, wrong, wrong. This comes out in Season 3 more.

For old entries, I think [livejournal.com profile] battlestar_blog has old episode review threads (http://community.livejournal.com/battlestar_blog/719644.html) that hopefully aren't too spoilery.

And I'm pretty sure Anders' eyes are green, and I do love him so.

I too would love to hear an explanation of Six's cylon-human reproduction theories. I have an awful time remember what has and hasn't happened yet as of any given episode, so I have a hard time elaborating, but yes, let's talk some more about those cylon reproductive abilities, please.
