3x17 to 3x20 (Maelstrom, The Son Also Rises, Crossroad 1&2) + Razor

Maelstrom

So I was kinda spoiled about Kara being highly likely to die in this episode, and I was quite doubtful of it and the episode did nothing to dispel my doubts. It was quite a beautiful episode though. I liked seeing Kara and Lee back to the laid back friendly interaction which makes their chemistry shine much better. The imagery of the spiral, the nova and the maelstrom, is fascinating (and it's tie to the "eye" imagery, eye of jupiter, eye of the storm...) and I'm quite intrigued to see what they're going to do with it. It's certainly fitting to Kara and her self-destructiveness. (I really, really adore Kara, by the way, and how screwed up she is yet utterly awesome and with that lovely infectious laughter).Intriguing also is the image of Aurora (are we entirely done with the Greek version of the name, now? ;_; Greek names are so much prettier than the Latin ones), the one who leads the way. I was wondering if they had any of the other Gods beyond the 12. (Speaking of which which version of the Dodecatheon do you think they use? Have the show writers even thought about it? XD)

At the end of this one, I had written Starbuck out to be a Cylon, but I'm starting to rethink that now.

The Son Also Rises

Badger! With little Fuuma glasses instead of a hat! ♥ ♥ ♥ haha, I love this guy, and I love his character. And I love seeing Lee back to doing idealistic things, because Lee's suffering some really crappy characterizations during the last (or last two) seasons.

Adama keeps on getting on my bad side.

Crossroad 1&2

Hahaha, did they really expect to put Baltar in trial without putting the whole of them in trial as well? OKay, that was amusing, but I was slightly miffed they didn't even bring back more old stuff. There's been overall so many mistakes which would have been fun to recapped via this framing. Then again, I guess it would have dragged too much otherwise.

Roslin, Roslin, I still like you despite the many mistakes you've done this and last seasons, but looking down at Lee isn't the way to endear me to you, when you owe so much to him because of his idealism. And another reset for the prophecy of the dying leader. So I guess the Magical Baby Cure was only about gaining time. Bad choice, show writers.

Gaeta's perjury was ♥ So was Baltar being so incensed at it and taunting Gaeta for failing to kill him (Butterfingers!!!) XDDD

Lee was awesome. As I said, I like him when he's being idealistic. Although that ending was a little tiny bit too easy. (Funny nobody brought back the stolen nuke given that's the one very big traitorous act with dire consequences that Baltar indeed did commit, and it was traced back to his lab)

Tigh, Chief, Tory and Anders being Cylons... I guessed it pretty soon when they started hearing that weird music nobody else hears, and especially when I had done counting them given that at this point I was still thinking of Starbuck as the fifth (and totally calling her showing up to Lee as soon as he vaguely saw something :D). It kinda amuses me that so many characters are OMG revealed to be Cylons, but beyond that not outraged (although Tigh's being older than the point where Cylons are supposed to have evolve to humanoid Cylons is annoying, I hope they'll have a real good explanations about this one >_> but they've been playing so fast and loose with their own show mythology so far that it's not exactly outrageous). All their various reactions were awesome (especially Tigh, of course!), although I do wish they hadn't killed Billy off because Tory's hardly been developed enough for that one to hit much (and perhaps we would have Anders randomly bonking Billy instead XDDD)

Liked the music by the way. It was weird and kinda surrealist, but it fit.

And Starbuck's back ♥ watch me not being surprised. (although now that I'm thinking of it, and that I've seen other people's commentaries I wonder if the answer is truly going to be that she was a Cylon.)

And Baltar's set up for religious storyline, yay!

Razor

So Cain was a psycho Lesbian after all, heh? x_x;; that ugliness apart Razor was pretty good. It helped that I fell in love with Kendra right away ♥ The contrast between her and Kara is pretty interesting, they're very different kind of warrior women, both archetypes I really, really love, both showing their fucked up-ness in different ways.

I also liked seeing Gina developed, seeing her as she was before what she endured.

The razor theme reminds me of Gunnm in interesting ways, since none of you guys have likely any clue what I mean of, I'd need to hunt back for the quotes Gally makes about wanting to be like the edge of the purest steel (and how it's immediately undercut by someone's comment that pure steel isn't strong at all, it's the impurity of the many different kinds of metals recycled in it which makes the Damas blades Gally uses strong). Actually, now that I think of it, it also remind me of the theme of the people found in to be experimented on in a lab which beg for being killed by the heroin which occurs in Gunnm and in Alien 4 (always wondered if Whedon had stolen that one from Gunnm or if it's just that strong at archetype the scene could genuinely be so similar), and happened in the Farm of course, and which is here referenced also by Kendra's murder of the wounded, fallen behind soldier.

The flashbacks to the first Cylon wars were interesting, although they broke the flow a bit.

Starbuck as the herald of the Apocalypse. I wonder if they might play out with the real meaning of apocalypse (id est, revelation, not end of the world). And of course I wonder how it'll tie with the Aurora imagery.

Okay, now. Give me your fic recs, please! :D

No fic recs, alas, but I've been waiting for you to get to the Crossroads two-parter. Yes, I hope we get some damned good explanation regarding Tigh's (apparent) age. Also, I loved his reaction to finding out he's a Cylon--he's going to go on and do his frakking job and be the kind of man he always was.

Chief's reaction, once it all starts to settle in, and he has time to think of all the ramifications? That'll be all kinds of fun.

Tigh is ♥ I always liked him, but S3 has really been his season!
With Tigh is the fact he's got a past, a history fighting the First Cylon War that especially makes it weird.
I guess that means the Final Five aren't so much Final as Original, which the Temple of Five already hinted to.

But then why do the Cylons think there is Twelve of them? (and we still don't know who placed that paper on Adama's desk)

I adore the Chief, so I'm curious as well. Between Boomer, Cally and his son, and what his intuition told him in Eye of Jupiter, there's a lot of interesting fodder for reactions.

Apparently the two moments everyone remembers from the episode - Baltar's "BUTTERFINGERS!" and Tigh's, "WOAH!" - were both improvised by the actors. Apparently in the writer's room for Season 4, every time they got stuck they had Tigh walk in and go, "WOAH!" ;-)

Of the Penultimate Four, Chief Tyrol was the only one they knew about ahead of time (they decided on it during the Season 2 finale), which is why they gave him the visions leading to the Temple of the Five and so on. The others were spur of the moment and Tigh was the one they argued about the most. Apparently they've already got the explanation and we'll get it a little way into Season 4.

Badger was great, with his fake limp and psycho cat (which apparently caused havoc on set to the point where the actors threatened to kill it if it held up shooting any more, which is why it's not in CROSSROADS). Just the sort of offbeat, manic character the series needed at this point after the general dourness of Season 3.

I don't think Starbuck is the Final Cylon. There is a very strong theory that the Final Cylon is also the Cylon God. My personal money is on Tom Zarek, now we know that (apparent) age is not a bar to being a humanoid Cylon. Since he was in the original series as well, it makes a crazy and interesting link between the two to make him the Cylon God. But we'll see.

Insanely, it has been a year since the end of Season 3. They've really taken the piss making us wait this long for new eps :-(

Yeah, obviously he's the only one they had done foreshadowing for :)

Hahahahahah! yeah the series can use for comedy at times!

My personal money is on Tom Zarek
!! Oh that's interesting! of all the characters put up as possible, he's the only thing for which that would an intriguing possibilities, especially now that he's Roslin's VP and that she's got cancer again.

Now you sound like the people who whine about GRRM not writing faster XDD

The thing that made think it was Zarek was that the producers said they decided on who the Final One was back whilst working on the Season 1 finale. I suspect it was Zarek giving his inspirational speech on the Cloud Nine which may have led them to the conclusion of making it him. The real question is if the Final One also doesn't know who they are (like the Penultimate Four). Now you sound like the people who whine about GRRM not writing faster XDD You always become that which you most hate ;-P Although in this case the producers actually finished making the first half of Season 4 back in December, and could have started showing it as early as November with no problems at all.
