I think i did it not that long ago, but wth, I like doing it. ^^
The one who seduced you and fucked you over and broke your heart in a million pieces and laughed about it:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was my first fic based fandom. I fell hard, and then I fell out so hard during S7. But, boy, did I love the S6 and the Spuffy at the time. And I liked Angel/Spike before it was fashionable too!I still kinda love Ethan/Giles. Very much over the rest of it, thank you.
The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp in the sheets:
CLAMP's TB/X. Still much love for it, years after, and pleasant to revisit too for a night or two.
The mysterious dark gothy one with whom you used to sit up talking until 3 a.m. at weird coffeehouses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized he really was fucking crazy: Oh, my crazy fandoms, how many you are. Say Yami No Matsuei. Say Gravitation. Hahaha, maybe that's because those were fandoms I visited because I saw they were hyped by friends ^^
The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor, and whom you'd still really like to fuck again although you're relieved he doesn't actually live in town: Shoujo Kakumei Utena. Except for the part about being relieved. It'd be awesome if it lived in town and fucked with me and my mind every day. Damnit it's Utena, it's smart enough to do anything with me :D
The steady: A Song of Ice and Fire. On and off since 2001, and love's still going strong if in different forms. Characters' suchmagnifiscent bastards sweethearts! In their own peculiar way. And with 3 books (at least) yet to go, it can go strong for a while too...
The ex: Right now Harry Potter. I'm not even bitter, I'm just utterly numb. I kinda wonder if I'll be interested in reading/writing for it some time in the future and at the same time, I don't really give a damn. I guess it's a good thing I was always more enamoured with the fandom than I was with the canon.
The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with: So many (I'm a fandom slut :D), Pirates of the Caribbean, X Men movie, FMA, Fruits Basket, Princess Tutu, Ouran, lattest's BSG... I call 'em lurker fandoms.
The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with but ultimately you're just good buddies 'cause the friendship is there but the chemistry ain't:Avatar maybe? I dunno if we have a thing or not. I definitely love the canon rabidly, but I'm so not crazy about the shipping, and while I do like reading and writing gen, I kinda wonder if it's enough to sustain my interest in a fandom in the long term. On the other hand it's definitly a lovely canon and the fandom's got its sweet spots as well... if only I had more fic bunnies (and less epic plotty ones, plz).
The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool guy except it's never really gone anywhere: Firefly, maybe.
The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at him and thinking, "Him? How the hell did he land all these cool babes?": These days it's Supernatural, or Lost, or SGA, or any of those big fandoms that seem so dull to me. (not that I know the series mind...)
The one your friend has fallen for like a ton of bricks and whom she keeps babbling to you about on the phone for hours, and you'd be happy for her except you just know it's going to end badly: See above :D

Date: 15 May 2008 09:21 pm (UTC)wrt Avatar. I'm the same - but for different reasons. The canon gets to me and I adore the canon ships, but I just can't find myself too invested into the fandom lately. Or ever. The fandom just bugs me too much.

Date: 15 May 2008 09:30 pm (UTC)HAHAHAHAHA, yeah, JKR WTF just shud up already XDDD
The Avatar fandom really is annoying except for those few people which I've already friended anyway ^^ I have ships in Avatar, I just don't have OTP, you know? I think I need an OTP (don't care if it's canon or fanon or crack) to be really involved in a fandom. And the characters' so young it does feel a little bit awkward at times. I kinda wonder if i might be more invested in the fandom once the canon's closed, but it might also get the reversed effect... >_>;;

Date: 15 May 2008 09:43 pm (UTC)I had deep disdain for it for the first 4 books. I was in deep denial about getting into the fandom for at least 6 months. So it's not like I ever trusted it enough for it to break my heart :D yeah, loving it would be a bad idea... it's a bad boyfriend that one ;_;

Date: 15 May 2008 09:54 pm (UTC)-Harry was good because he was good! I mean dude how else could have have pure innocent blood after snogging Ginny after nearly killing Draco.
-Speaking of which: eeeeeeeeeeew Harry/Ginny.
-Speaking of which: Ron/Hermione was mutually abusive and I'm actually glad it was mostly ignored in DH because it creeped me out something fierce.
-Voldemort's backstory was fail and went against the entire theme of 'choice makes you who you are'. It wasn't just being born one way that squicked me, but that the entire theme of choices making you who you are was ignored. Or, rather, I read it wrong. I think the theme was choices show you for who you are, not that choices form you. If I'd realized that sooner, would have stopped caring a long time ago.
-And um finally? ROWLING SHOW DON'T TELL. You can't just have Harry be over Sirius when in the last book he was struggling to cope with death and mostly failing.
-Also the lack of Neville development after the awesome build up in the first five books disappointed me.
Give me BSG any day of the week.

YES.
With BSG, it's also... he pulls lots of stunts and plot twists, but things he's set up in the story? The themes? I don't think he's ever really abandoned them.

Date: 15 May 2008 10:07 pm (UTC)Not to be an ass about this, but can I say I don't like seeng "rape" used in that kind of hyperbolic way? I know there are some rape survivors on my flist and it makes me uncomfortable to think how they might feel about it.

Date: 15 May 2008 10:10 pm (UTC)wasting them, maybe?
no subject
Date: 15 May 2008 10:11 pm (UTC)Sometimes they're wasted! But sometimes they're like... shown and then later developed that stand against that very theme developed. Wasted would be like if they were ignored, which isn't exactly the same.

Date: 15 May 2008 09:47 pm (UTC)IIRC Spike/Angel really kicked off as a pairing during AtS's last season, when BtVS had alread ended; although they've got fun enough interactions in S2 to work something from there ("You were my Yoda!" XD) The fearsome foursome in general (that's Darla/Angelus/Spike/Drusilla) have a long enough time together, a fucked up and dysfunctionnal yet loving (?) enough relationship and a few intriguing flashbacks enough to spark up a lot of fics... but you probably ought to wait before reading them.

Date: 16 May 2008 06:08 am (UTC)Hah, yes. Utena is just that good. ♥
Firefly does seem interesting. I'm not usually very keen on series that aren't book/animation based (oh no! Pesky real people getting in the way of fiction!), but from the little I've seen of it, the Firefly fandom seems to have a lot of energy and good quality fanworks. All in all, pretty tempting. But, even so, I doubt I'll ever look into it properly.

Date: 16 May 2008 05:45 pm (UTC)And the answer to half of the questions would be the same: Wheel of Time. It was great for so long, but then it got kind of samey and the fire went out of the relationship, and sometimes I'd get flashes reminding me of why I liked it in the first place, but then I woke up one day and realised that I really, just had to let it go for both our sakes :-P

Date: 16 May 2008 05:54 pm (UTC)Hey, I didn't gender neutralize it myself (although I thought of it ^^)
hehehe, Wheel of Time. I did enjoy reading those books when I was in highschool but I never was in love with them (thankfully). I never went beyond... I think it was Winter Hearth.
Before ASOIAF I was very much into Guy Gavriel Kay (which I now find terribly pompous XD); before that Weis&Hickman (for the Gate of Death mostly) which i don't dare reread), and before that Zelazny (which I still think is awesome if occasionnaly dated).

Date: 16 May 2008 06:01 pm (UTC)I still like Kay, and really want to read Lions of Al-Rassan before Hollywood gets its hands on it. Weis and Hickman's Deathgate Cycle was great, but agreed I'd be nervous about rereading it now, and I remember loathing Dragonlance characters turning up in it for no reason (well, one did). Still need to read Zelazny.

Date: 16 May 2008 06:08 pm (UTC)Lions my favourite boook of Kay, I think it's the one that endures the better.
I read the Deathgate cycle before I read Lancedragon so Zifnab wasn't so jarring (although still a WTF kind of character @_@). I had a huge crush on Haplo ^^
You haven't read Zelazny and you got a SFF blog? Shame on you!!
