[livejournal.com profile] a_white_rain kinda makes me want to finally watch the end of Angel the series, since for complicated reasons of desynchronisation, French broacast, and download not being that easy at the time, I never saw past S3. Or maybe just go back to watch it from the beginning since I never did watch it in all that good condition. Not sure if I have the stamina for that, though - althought the idea doesn't make me wince like the idea of watching some BtVS.

XD

I totally rewatch both AtS and BtVS. I have a lot of love for both shows, flaws and all.

Angel seasons 4 and 5 are kind of my favourite, even though a lot of people HATE season 4. I pretty much ignored the bad stuff though and focused on the good.

With BtVS, S7 kind of spoiled a lot of retroactive enjoyment of the show, it's difficult to explain, but it left me bitter and voided of fannish love.

It's often a good strategy :)

I heard a lot of 5 especially, so I'm very spoiled but it could be fun still. And it'd have a lot of pretty!Wesley, which is certainly appealing.

At the very least you have to see season 5's Smile Time which is one of the most amusing TV episodes I've seen. I think seasons 4 and 5 were not the best of Angel but they did still have plenty of good episodes - season 4 was very good at first but (in typical Whedon fashion) the story-arc ended up being a bit disappointing and didn't entirely make sense. Season 5 tried to do something different with the series, which was a commendable attempt although I didn't like the new premise quite so much and they seemed to kill off most of the characters I was actually interested in. At least it did have a good ending, the final episode was very good and a fitting end to the season.

S4 has an...interesting plot, but some character issues (but there is a great Faith arc). The first half of S5 bored me, but the later part is pretty intense. You might want to check it out since you're a big Spike fan.

great Faith arc interests me!

I was a Spike fan... nowadays, I don't know.

The Faith episodes in season 4 were among the best in the last two seasons. Spike is entertaining in season 5 although it's questionable whether he has much of a character arc other than annoying Angel a lot.

While I pretty much go blind with rage thinking about various major plot arcs in the later seasons of Angel, I do have to echo that above sentiment that the Faith episodes are worth your time. For my money, if you don't feel like doing the whole series, you could just watch the episodes in which she appears and skip the rest.

I really like Angel Season 4, though others hate it. Angel was a pretty dark show anyway (Angel's reaction to Wesley's betrayal at the end of Season 3 is brilliant) but S4 pushed it way beyond anything they'd done before and there are 3-4 episodes in a row which just have monumental cliffhangers of awesome. The Faith arc is also excellent, bringing her character arc across the two shows to a satisfying resolution (although she does vanish rather abruptly, as she has to go to Sunnydale to help fight some bad guys in BtVS' final season). The last 3-4 eps of Season 4 are very, very strange though. Among the weirdest eps either series ever did with the plot going off in a completely unexpected tangent. It's also not a great season if you're a Cordelia fan.

Season 5 is lighter and funnier (the ep with Angel and Spike in Rome is hilarious) but not as well structured as S4. They also deliberately held back on Spike, and he doesn't end up dominating the show as he did in Buffy's last three seasons. But the last 2 episodes or so of S5 are just excellent. The show wasn't supposed to end there, but it ended up being a perfect ending for the series, and a great final line :-)

I don't mind darkness, usually. But I'm a bit afraid of what they did to Cordelia.

I know how it ends :)

D'un autre côté, je suis plus fan de BtVS que d'Angel. Les deuxièmes parties des saisons 4 et 5 ne m'ont pas laissé de grands souvenirs. Mais Smile Time is love ! ^^;

TF1 avait vraiment été horrible sur ce coup :(

Moi aussi je préférais Buffy, d'un autre coté Angel avait aussi ses points forts (comme Wesley :)

Season.5 was the only season I watched of Angel. Mostly due to the dynamic between Spike and Angel. Illyria is also plain awesome to watch XD
