Do I speak (write) with an accent? What kind of accent? Any pattern of language I use you find irritation, funny, or intriguing?

I seem to remember there was some quirk in your writing when I betaed for you, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was! Something about word order, maybe.

For some strange reason you have a clear French accent when speaking English. ;)

I seems to remember me and Pod having some difficulties understanding what a 'horse' was some years ago.

Any pattern of language I use you find

If I had any doubt about your French origins, that construction would have been enough to dispel them ;)

I haven't noticed any particular accent, but I'm pretty bad at noticing things like that. ^^; You may sometimes write in a way which suggests that your main language isn't English - not in a bad way, though - but there isn't anything I can think of specifically.

You sometimes do this thing my husband does, too, which is using French-derived words that sound like they could exist in English but actually don't -- either because English never borrowed the word or because it did borrow it but anglicized it in a different way. (I guess it's a "false cousins" thing? Or at least that's what he calls it :) I can't think of any specific examples at the moment, but it sounds sophisticated and charming (but does show that your native language probably isn't English).

I would love to hear what you sound like speaking, though -- have you ever done a voice post? (Is there even a convenient way to do so, for non-US folks?)

In French we call them Faux Amis - False Friends - I'm pretty sure I've used 'False Friends' a couple of time, too, which would make it an example of what you mention XD

'sophisticated and charming' lol *blushes* thank you, that's a nice way to talk about mistakes.

Sadly, I don't think we can do voice posts outside of the US (well I think it's possible in the UK, but not France). I'd have to look if another way is possible. I'd love to hear your voice, too!

Apparently they're called "false friends" in English too (more commonly than "false cousins" even, if Wikipedia is to be believed) -- so that's a true friend and not a false one :)

I think I've got a voice post buried on my LJ somewhere... I should go and dig it up.

This is so weird... I found my voice post (I'd apparently tagged it -- foresight!) The weird thing? It was made exactly a year ago. O.o

Here it is.

It's probably the odd word order.

Idk, I think one can sense your native language is a Romance language. That's because I have pretty much the same kind of slips, lol. At least as far as I'm concerned, sometimes it's hard to get the English speech pattern right. It's like "Asterix in Britain", only in reverse!

To me you sound like a native speaker of English, but not clear either British or American, and certainly not regional. And my degree is in linguistics, so I'm fairly sensitive to language variation.
