Yes, I did found the Watchmen movie to be a good adaptation and a kick ass movie overall!

Ahh! *stomps feet* And I probably won't get to see it for a week, at least!

I can't decide whether to ask for details or not. :|

There is a little bit too much of slo-mo, but it doesn't distract too much from the movie apart from the first scene, when the Comedia gets beat up :D

What did you expect from the director of 300?

From the director of 300, I was expecting so much slo-mo that it would actively detract from my enjoyment of the movie. However since the amount of slo-mo was well within my limit of tolerance; I was glad to tell my friend Wert here so.

I'd seen mixed reviews of the slow-mo aspect. Some said that if you haven't seen 300, there's way too much slow-mo. But compared to 300, there's almost no slow-mo at all.

And then there's the hundreds of other reviews which don't mention the slow-mo at all, or if they do only to say it doesn't matter.

So I am now happy with the slow-mo situation, and will be going to see the movie tomorrow.

:-P

Another thumbs up review on my flist, OMG! Maybe it really won't suck as I dreaded! *is still disappointed with V for Vendetta*

I liked V for Vendetta too, though! But I hadn't read the comic, so no point of comparison.

Well I should say I love V (the comic) on a very visceral, personal level, so I guess it was VERY hard to get it right for me. But on the other hand I was also like "WTF director of 300?!?" and you know, I didn't like that much either! But apparently he's doing it right now? Wtf, I still don't know when I'm having the time to see this! Goddamn deadlines I forgot about until... today! *runs away, flailing*

lol

300 I neither read nor watched. I think perhaps this director's good at beign faithful to the comic? I mean, if 300 was crappy in the first place, no surprise it was as a movie.

Idk, I read 300 after seeing the movie and it seemed somewhat better - some things sound less redundant when you read them rather than hear them spoken on film, and vice versa, I suppose. I still failed at connecting with the main point of "dying in battle for the sake of dying in battle" I was like "lol, pretty dumb of you, Spartans!". Whatever.

I usually like variations from the source when they are well aimed - for instance, I'm a fan of Cuaron's take on Harry Potter, which looked like blasphemy to many fans (and honestly I don't think I'm going to miss the giant squid on Watchmen if the spoilers I heard are correct - because the squid is not the point, but all that leads to the squid is...)
On the other hand, V as a graphic novel was definitely darker and more morally ambiguous (V is *much* scarier in comic form IMO), and the whole coming of age story for Evey got lost... The film wasn't bad, per se, but it felt like a watered down version of the novel to me. Then again, it's probably more about my own emotional attachment to that story rather than the film's own fault.

Now, Wolverine will probably suck on its own account, but I'll be totally shallow and drool over it just because I fangirl the characters and the actors - the plot is tangential, lol!

well, I didn't think Watchmen the movie was as good as the comic, but then again I didn't expect it to be. But I thought it as a decent adaptation, which got most of the story faithfully.

I've read both this opinion and the opposite on 300, btw.

I think I really need to read V.

I saw the Wolverine trailer before the movie, btw. It looks hilarious :D

The 300 movie was quite faithful to the source. The problem, I think, was that it just did not work as well in a movie format. I enjoyed the graphic novel a lot more.

Yeah, I mean, the thing I liked most about the comic was the page design and visual storytelling, which obviously can't be literally taken to movie form. I think the director tried to go for some sort of equivalent with the cinematography and CGI, but that left me unimpressed instead.

OHHH, THAT'S WONDERFUL~!

I've been so worried that it'll suck, because all of my friends have been SO EXCITED and it would be a terrible letdown if it bombed.

I think I won't be able to see it until the middle of next week, since I'll be working and then there's Purim. Unless I want to miss some sleep to see it, which is possible.

I saw the trailer tonight and liked it though.
