Hmm, this "Watchmen" thing looks interesting, what with the many people on my f-list who like it. Can I go watch the movie without having read the comics, or should I start on the comics NOW and do myself a favour, for deity's sake?

Well the comic's undoubtly better than the movie, because, well, duh. But you can fairly see the movie without having read the comic, I think that works well too.

Obviously, I recommend reading the comic in any case ^_^

Just as planned, huh, Alan Moore? *giggles*

I can't make up my mind which part of that theoretical children's cartoon is the most brain-scarring.

...darn it, I was about to link to the funny little text parody someone did in relation to that Watchmen-Peanuts art, and then I remembered it was on [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily. *curses the heavens*

DO NOT GIVE THE DEATH NOTE TO ALAN MOORE! I REPEAT DO NO GIVE THE DEATH NOTE TO ALAN MOORE!

I think my favourite part is "Rorschach is friends to all animals" :D

awww :( I never followed scans_daily, but yeah, that's really a tragic loss.

You liked it, right? I haven't seen spoilers, but my main worry right now, which is probably a pet-peeve, is the romaticization of The Comedian's character. I know, but I saw it a lot already among the fans and God, I hate the man.

Yes, I did. It's not the comic, but then again, I didn't expect it to be.

I never understood how anyone could romanticize the Comedian, yeah :( so I didn't see him as any more romanticized in the movie than in the comic, but, well... it probably won't stop anyone.

Oh, well, I may watch it.

Yeah, well, I kinda don't care if fans do it, I just don't want to pay to see it. XD

Thanks :)

The MAD one is brilliant. Love the debate in the prison cell about the deep connection between scenes.

If the movie tanks on such a scale that multiple Hollywood studios go bust and the world is plunged into economic chaos, this is exactly how I'd expect Alan Moore to react.

I don't think it will though :-)

IS THAT GOD IN THAT LAST COMIC

OR JESUS

BECAUSE HE LOOKS LIKE WHAT I WOULD IMAGINE GOD AND/OR JESUS TO LOOK LIKE

ROFL no it's Alan Moore a British comic book writer who's something of a MAD GENIUS. He really looks like that, with the crazy beard and all. He's a bit crazy too. And a genius XDDDDD

...oh. HE'S THE GUY THAT WROTE WATCHMEN. Suddenly, things make a lot more sense.

I think it would have been better if it was Jesus trolling everybody, though a;lskjd;lkasjdf

My friend [livejournal.com profile] readingthedark (we worked at the same comic shop in high school) did an interesting post on the then upcoming Watchmen movie and Alan Moore wackiness back in January--

http://readingthedark.livejournal.com/41033.html?

Every since I read it I think of Alan Moore as THE LIZARD KING.

That comic of Alan Moore reacting to the movies failure is brilliant. So perfect. Watchmen opens tonight in Chicago. I'm planning on seeing it on Tuesday or Wednesday to miss the crowds. I'm pretty excited, the stills I've seen look great and I was delighted to find out that Ozymandias is played by the actor who was Charles Ryder in the 2008 film version of Brideshead Revisited. I am a little nervous though, I have a pretty deep attachment to Watchmen. We go way back. When I graduated from high school in 1990 my yearbook quote was "Who Watches the Watchmen". I'm horrified that the movie will contain something unthinkable like fluffy romance between the original Silk Spectre and the Comedian or Nite Owl II being all macho and butch.

I ended up going to the film Friday after all. You're right, it was both faithful to the comic book and kickass in general. I was very pleased that canon impotency and ambiguity was intact. Also I think I'm in love with the Silhouette....
