I really loved the latest House. My love for Kutner has increased tenfold with that one Harry Potter reference; and I liked the way they treated the theme of niceness/honesty (although they went a bit over the top). At the same time I think it's hilarious about what they say about Wilson's niceness since I really think he's an ass. (Of course I also think House's an ass as well, but I'd still hang out with him any time before i would with Wilson XD - I like honest people, and I almost never tell white lie. Does that make me an ass? I think you can be respectful to people and kind without saying white lies - although of course that's not the same thing as saying everything that crosses your mind uncensored).

I tried the Battlestar Galactica board game last saturday. It turned out to be rather boring. Possibly just a question of chance, but still a bit anticlimatic. The game works as a cooperative game between players incarnating a characters (the ones available to pick are Roslin, Adama, Lee, Starbuck, Helo, Sharon, Tigh, Baltar, Galen, and, oddly enough, Zarek) while trying to solve the crisis and Cylons attack that happen at each player turns and tend to decrease various Ressources counter (things like fuel, population, food, water,etc. - when they get to zero we lose) while trying to make 8 "jumps" needed to reach the Earth. BUT!! we have secret loyalty cards that say one of us could be a Cylon or a Cylon sympathiser who's goal is to defeat everyone.
During the first phase of the game (up to the 4 jumps mid point, which is reaching Kobol) it turned out no one of us was a Cylon, so we faced the challenge too easily. (I was Kara btw :) I went into a viper and shot down the Cylons we had at the beginning and they didn't turned up again until Kobol).
After Kobol we got new loyalty cards, and I got the Cylon Sympathiser card (XD) which because all our Resources counter were in the green, meant I was revealed as a Cylon, playing against the other players openly. Turns out there's very little you can do in the game as a revealed Cylon (and even less for me as one who was so as a Cylon Sympathiser, awww) so I found this phase also boring, even after I was joined by another player who got the Cylon card (which means he wasn't revealed at first, and could sabotage the other players' efforts in various ways which didn't deceive anyone - everyone guesses right away who he was XD then he revealed himself but that didn't much either).
I'll probably try to play it again soonishly so will say how it turns out. Probably if there's a Cylon in the first phase the game is more exciting and challenging.

I should be off this week end, I'll be in Deauville for the Festival du Film Asiatique. Need to make train reservation now.

I really must catch up on House... I kinda... fell behind when it looked like Cuddy was going to turn the hospital over to Cameron, and am now, what, about 5 episodes behind. But all the reactions to the last episode have been glowing, and knowing Kutner is involved in a Harry Potter reference may just give me the impetus to catch up again.

I think you can, too, even though I, personally, generally tend towards white lies -- because it's easier, not because it's the only way to be decent and kind. You certainly don't come across as an ass :) (And Wilson is one; he would be a much less interesting character if he were just genuinely nice without that complication.)

Haha, I loved the episode were Cameron was boss, then again, I love Cameron. Then of course she resigned because status quo is God in House x_x

That's an interesting point about white lies... I don't think that's why I do it, but I can definitely see circumstances where that would be the case. (For me, I think it's that I'm pathological about disappointing people, so if I know the truth is likely to be disappointing/discomfitting to them, no matter how minutely, I find myself drawn towards a white lie. "Oh, no, not too salty at all, it's delicious!" "No, no, I wasn't waiting long, I was 15 minutes late myself." etc. etc. During the brief time I was supervising people, by far the hardest thing for me was to force myself to say, "Actually, this isn't what I asked you to do at all, and it doesn't meet our needs."

The board game sounds good, but I'd heard it's a bit dull if you don't get a Cylon card near the start. It sounds like it could maybe be made better by some tinkering with the rules, maybe ensuring someone's a Cylon from the start?

Also, isn't getting to Earth a bit lame as an objective? ;-)

The BSG game is more fun as you play it more. Also basically if you get sort of role-playey with it (last time my boyfriend was Adama and I was Roslin and he actually succeeded with a military cue and it ended about as badly as one might have expected on the show because we spent more time fighting over power than trying to win).

yes I am spoilerphobic, so I wanted to wait to comment until after the House ep was on Hulu.

I've started lying to people about the "what brought you to Phoenix" question as well as the "why aren't you a banker anymore?" one. for single serving friends it's much more sociable than the truth which is one big fat downer. so far I've been an adjunct professor of anthropology at ASU (good and unverifiable since most of my fares don't have college degrees) and I had a sordid affair with the Chase CEO's 18 year old daughter resulting in my termination from that company. One time I was invited to Arizona Diamondback's (professional baseball team) spring training as a backup first baseman, but I tore out my knee and so couldn't play anymore. That one's at least half true.
